Why Facebook is the Future - Reading/Listening Comprehension

Why Facebook is the Future - Reading/Listening Comprehension

An authentic reading material based on an article taken from "Time." The article is about the history of the most popular social network - Facebook. You can make it both reading and listening (if you read it out to your students, or record yourself, which I did - that was fun experience). The comprehension part contains multiple-choice, T/F questions, open-ended questions and vocabulary part.

Practice exam paper - Paper 2 AQA GCSE English Language , War Speeches

Practice exam paper - Paper 2 AQA GCSE English Language , War Speeches

This resource is a complete lesson with a complete mock exam for Paper 2 of the AQA English Language exam and enough material to fill a 3 hour session. It is designed to be a informal and supportive lesson to help students become more comfortable and confident in the lead up to mock and real exams, although it can be altered to be presented in a way which suits the individual teachers style or to be more formal in delivery. Based around two war speeches made by Winston Churchill and Chief Joseph this lesson examines to two sides of war made by two different war leaders from different eras, it allows the student to work in teams and as individuals with bite sized activities which help the student to focus and develop ideas around the materials, supporting the less able in the class to get up to speed but also allowing your more able to push further and develop insightful answers. As the theme is war, this lesson also allows room for embedding of deeper social issues. Hope it helps

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Scheme (8-10 Lessons) for KS3/KS4 Learners.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Scheme (8-10 Lessons) for KS3/KS4 Learners.

This is a scheme centred on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This has been used with Mid-High ability KS3 and lower to mid KS4 students and covers a wide range of themes in each of the chapters of the story. Each lesson contains developed learning objectives and key word foci, as well as a starter activity. Periodical homework tasks, assessment tasks and exam style questions are included. You can either teach this with or without the text, but I have taught this alongside the text, which means this scheme can last between 6-10 1 hour lessons. Lessons can also be easily differentiated if needed and assessment / exam style tasks can be easily changed if needed. This scheme works best with KS3 (Year 8-9) learners and lower level KS4 (Year 10) students. There are no other resources needed than each of the detailed lessons. Enjoy!

Listening Comprehension - Remember the Titans (plus oral presentation project)

Listening Comprehension - Remember the Titans (plus oral presentation project)

*** answer key included A listening comprehension for the movie Remember the Titans. This evaluation contains a short-answer section for 20 points (identify the characters and vocabulary) and a long-answer section for 30 points (17 questions).  I also included a writing journal section which can be completed in class or at home. For the writing journal, students are asked to select and answer two of the proposed questions. You will also find an oral presentation project to get the students to acquire additional knowledge about the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. This way the movie becomes an excellent pre-activity to a broader learning opportunity for students. Note: My personal way of using the oral presentation project is that I get students in pairs to work on the project and present to the rest of the class. I ask students to take notes because afterwards I give them a quiz on everything which was presented… not necessarily for a final “official” grade but a final “unofficial” assessment of who has acquired the most knowledge… students love the challenge of trying to beat their classmates and no stress about it showing up on their report card… I usually give a few bonus points to my first three pairs who got the most correct answers on the final quiz.
