Welsh in the Classroom & at Home – Y6

Welsh in the Classroom & at Home – Y6

These booklets and posters contain incidental Welsh phrases for Y6 children that are useful in different activities throughout the day. The pocket-sized booklets and A4 posters are designed to increase bilingualism in primary schools. Using this resource is a simple and effective way to ensure that incidental Welsh language is embedded throughout the day and is ideal for supporting all staff to improve the use of incidental Welsh. The pocket-sized parent booklet is ideal to improve the use of incidental Welsh at home, supported by the accompanying soundbites. The booklet outlines Welsh vocabulary, phrases and questions that are useful for parents to use at home and is aligned to the classroom booklets. The soundbites could be made available for parents on the school website, embedded in QR codes or added as an audio file to a video and tweeted. Even better if the children record their own versions. Saint David's Day Presentation and Colouring Activities

Saint David's Day Presentation and Colouring Activities

Saint David is the patron saint of Wales. I have created a presentation which could be used either in the classroom or as part of a school assembly. This presentation links to a YouTube video which explains the day. I have also added a virtual walk around Saint Davids (the birth place of Saint David), provided some key facts about the day, links to a quiz and some Welsh themed colouring sheets. St Davids Day is an important celebration. Learn why the Welsh like to wear leeks on this day, and the significance of the daffodils.

Body Parts Bingo / Bingo El Cuerpo / Bingo Les corps / Bingo rhanau'r corff / EAL Body parts

This fantastic resource can be used to reinforce the names of the body parts in any language of your choice. I personally have used the resource in the teaching of more than one language, to huge success. The resource includes 20 different bingo sheets which can be laminated to be reused. This is a fun way to reinforce vocabulary. This resource is also a great way to reinforce English language with students who are new to English in small groups or using native speakers as role models.

Cardboard Dragon!

Cardboard Dragon!

So, since we're creating dragons for St David's Day, I thought I would share this hand drawn template I made so that you can create your own cardboard (or wooden!) dragon. It's simple enough - print out the templates and trace them onto your chosen card (the joining notches will need to be made thicker / thinner depending on the card you are using). Where a piece is needed more than once, I have written how many you will need for each. Then, cut out and assemble - no glue required!! Feel free to adapt the templates how you like; change the angles of notches or shapes as you please. This is great for anybody who has dragons / myths & legends / anything Welsh as their topics. Whatever you do, please leave some love and comments below!

Rhanau'r Corff Dylunio Anghenfil - Body Parts Welsh Monster Description

Rhanau'r Corff Dylunio Anghenfil - Body Parts Welsh Monster Description

A fun activity which would be great as a homework task (as there are vocabulary boxes to support) or as an independent task in a lesson. In this task the children are challenged to use the vocabulary for the body parts supplied to create a monster. A great way to consolidate the children's use of the vocabulary in a creative way. The activity is differentiated 3 ways. Also included is a short powerpoint introducing / refreshing key vocabulary.
