Structured activity that demonstrates how to produce a 1-14 pH Range.

Structured activity that demonstrates how to produce a 1-14 pH Range.

Remember - Health and Safety is the responsibility of the teacher in charge of the activity. Consult with your laboratory technician and try the experiment before allowing the pupils to attempt the experiment. You know your pupils best. Free starter and plenary activities are provided. Extra sheets of pupil write on sheets are provided. Activity is structured allowing projection of sheets onto Interactive White Board to allow collation of class results and class discussion. A suggested marking schedule is also provided , along with Grading and Feedback Sheets. I would suggest putting the pupils into 'marking pairs' and letting them grade each others work and give feedback. Then cast an eye over the work to check it has been done correctly. This activity teaches the pupils how to interpret a marking matrix and make judgements as to what is required to achieve each grade. It takes patience giving the pupils practice carrying out his activity, but will ultimately result in higher pupil achievement and easier marking for you.

Digital Markbook for AQA Science

Digital Markbook for AQA Science

I have created and have been using for a number of years this digital markbook. Every teacher in my department use this on a lesson by lesson basis for KS4 and topic by topic basis for KS3; we use these in relation to the personal learning checklists (another of my uploads). This way of tracking progress has been invaluable in guiding the revision of my students, focusing them on the specific areas for their development. It is a simple process of entering R, A or G based on whatever criterion you decide works best for you

KS3 Science Revision (List of topics; PPT)

KS3 Science Revision (List of topics; PPT)

List of traditional KS3 Science topics together with 2 PPTs in which each heading on the list has a slide summarising the topic/concept. I use it to help Year 9 pupils prepare for their end-of-year exam. Probably too big to print out, but perfect to send to pupils over e-mail or put on a shared area or VLE.

An introduction to Acids and Alkalis

An introduction to Acids and Alkalis

An engaging lesson presentation (29 slides) that introduces students to acid and alkali substances and ensures that they can distinguish between the two using litmus paper. A number of competitions are used throughout the lesson to maintain motivation and to reveal key words and substances. Having met four household items that contain acids, students will be challenged to match the name of the acid to the household item. Students will be shown the details of red and blue litmus paper and then challenged to use their results to identify which were acids and which were alkalis. This lesson has been designed for KS3 students but could be used to go over the basic details of the topic with lower ability GCSE students
