A2 AQA French Cultural Topic-Stromae

A2 AQA French Cultural Topic-Stromae

Sequence of lessons about Stromae (Belgian singer/songwriter). With my Y13 class I covered both albums (but not all songs) and by the end, students said they felt ready for both the Writing and Speaking components of the exam. (They achieved 100% A*-C with 25% A*-A in August 2015) His biography, his writing style, his approach to media, his use of technology and his potential future in the international music industry are covered. Emphasis is placed on exam requirements, questions found on the AQA website and past papers/oral exams. Many resources were inspired by resources found on the internet however I put a significant amount of time planning full lessons which would enable students to understand/fulfill AQA's expectations while incorporating games and lighter tasks. The last 8 attachments are pictures I took on Y13s last day at school: they created a giant mind map about what they had learnt. I hope you find all these resources helpful. Please don't hesitate to comment/ask.

French songs

French songs

I have used Je suis malade with Y9 and Y10 and they love it when they see the 12 year old girl singing it. It's a great way in for them using songs to learn more French. I changed the translation a bit to make it more child friendly. They loved seeing the other versions too. Cosmo was for Y11. Respire was used with Y9, Y10 and Y11. Compare the two songs. Pauvre type was used with Y9 - Y11.

To consolidate Fou de musique and Fête de la musique from Studio 3. Revision of perfect tense and complex sentences and word order issues in French. Lots of practice on verbs , past tense in particular, practice on complex structures using ' after having + past participles ' and also a strong focus on French word order when talking about types of music, types of concerts etc.. The text can be exploited in may ways, I have written myself, used a class and paired reading, translations etc..

Crise d'identité (Un jeu inspiré par Hedbanz®)

Crise d'identité (Un jeu inspiré par Hedbanz®)

En posant des questions fermées (des questions qui suscitent un “oui” ou un “non”), un(e) étudiant(e) essaie de deviner le nom de la personne ou du personnage imaginaire écrit sur la fiche au tableau noir / blanc derrière lui. This activity is designed to motivate your students to ask questions in French. Because popular icons engage even reluctant learners, I've put a heavy emphasis on popular culture in this set of 130+ personality cards. But you can tailor the game to almost any topic by incorporating the political, historical or literary figures you are currently studying.

Keep Fit French: kinesthetic reading dance activity

Keep Fit French: kinesthetic reading dance activity

Keep Fit French French 'read and dance'. A fun and original kinesthetic reading activity. Devised by Jon Meier in 2012. In response to popular demand, I've finally uploaded this resource after running it for a few years with pupils at various schools and on MFL staff training workshops. Create a folder called Keep Fit French. Make sure you download both the Powerpoint and the background music file. Put both files in the folder. For the best collective experience you ideally need a group of about 8 to 20 people. Target group: 9-12 year olds and/or youthful French teachers. Test the Powerpoint – the music should play automatically from slide 5. If you can’t hear it, check your volume settings. *If the music is still not playing, see instructions at the bottom of this box. Everyone needs to be standing to do this. Spread out. Run the Powerpoint . Music should play automatically from slide 5 onwards. Read the phrase to yourself, and take one step in the direction of the correct picture. A step can be forwards, backwards, left, right or diagonally. Then step back to your starting position. Simple. Always remember to step back to your starting position The entire dance takes about 4 minutes. We've run this as an annual y7 pre-Christmas dance-off contest. Would also be good as a lunchtime fitness activity or 'Sports Relief' language event. _____________ *If the music does not play: Look at slide 5, check that the music file has been correctly inserted. Check the filename and pathname. It depends where you have put the folder. You may need to help Powerpoint to find the music file or you could reinsert it. Ensure that the sound is set to ‘start automatically’ and ‘play across slides’
