Factorising Quadratics (Loop Cards)

This download contains four sets of cards. Students choose a set and sort them into order by answering the questions. Then they try to do it faster using a different set, which has a different sort order. Click --> https://tes.com/.../loop-cards for Loop Cards on other topics. --- The cards can either be used by individuals, pairs or small groups. My favourite use is for two students to have different versions of the cards and race each other. They then check their answers, shuffle, swap packs and race again (quickest overall time wins!) Solutions and instructions are included. Cut out card size is approx. 65 x 90 mm.

Students learn how to find the sum and difference of two algebraic expressions by expanding brackets. Learning progresses from working with linear to non-linear terms and writing the area of composite shapes as simplified algebraic expressions. The start of the lesson recaps factorising and expanding a single bracket. The plenary challenges students to write the area of a composite shape as a simplified algebraic expression. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to simplify the sum of two brackets with linear terms. Most students should be able to find the sum and difference of two or more brackets. Some students should be able to find the sum and difference of two or more brackets with non-linear terms.
