Science Class Assembly Script: Light

(0)
This resource is a class assembly that I did with my Year 3 and 4 classes about our cross-curricular topic for the term: Light. To make the script I split the class into five groups, and gave each group a question to research with helpful bullet points. They went away and did this over a lesson, making the notes from which I made a class assembly script! The script can easily be adapted to change children's names or to add or take away parts. The script also includes visual activities or objects that groups can be showing to support their part of the assembly. Group topics include: What is light? Sources of light Darkness Shadows Reflections It is designed to be an informative assembly, but fun and easily for an audience to follow. Enjoy!

Star Art - using parabolic curves

(1)
Fun With Lines. Templates to create 4, 5, 6 and 8 point stars. Draw straight lines connecting the dots on the templates and curves will magically appear … such fun! (Parabolic Curves). Included: ♦ 4x student templates – 4, 5, 6 and 8 point stars ♦ Example stars ♦ Easy-to-follow instructions (with images) The Process: ♦ Draw the lines. ♦ Colour your artwork. ♦ Cut the artwork out around the circle. ♦ Display the stars. The Instructions: I have provided 7 steps to complete the artwork. Each step is on one page with concise instructions and an image. Print them out or display via a data projector – a great way for your students to self-check and manage their own learning. (Plus it will save you from having to answer millions of “Is this right?” questions!) The Practise Part: At the bottom of each template there is a section to practise ruling the lines and getting the hang of making parabolic curves before attempting it on the actual template. The artwork looks tricky …. but it is actually very simple! Skill enhancement: ruling straight lines with precision. Keywords: parabolic curves, string art, line art, geometry, math, ruler, straight lines, star, space, galaxy, © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

3 Dance Lessons - Owl Babies

(0)
3 creative dance lessons based on the story of Owl Babies by Martin Waddle. The first lesson covers the nest & could link to animal habitats, the second uses the idea of the owl babies coming out onto their various branches whilst waiting for their mother & uses the difference of the branch, the twig & the old ivy. The final lesson looks at the mother flying & returning to the nest. Each lesson comes in a step by step format & requires the teacher to simply ask questions & set tasks to allow the children to respond creatively. There are hints & tips along the way to assist, as well as a column indicating the key skill in each section of the lesson & a link to suitable music. Bats use echolocation to find their food. They send out calls when they're hunting at night and listen to the echoes that come back - they then use this information to &'map&'; their surroundings and work out how far away things are. Bats can even use echolocation to tell the difference between objects and food - so they can avoid bashing into trees and hone in on a tasty insect instead :O) Try it out for yourself - play the hungry bats game:
