Using Prime Factors - 13 worksheets

(1)
A set of 13 worksheets providing a variety of questions about finding and using prime factors. The questions try to encourage students to understand how prime factors can be used to explore the properties of numbers. Venn diagrams are used to calculate the lowest common multiple and highest common factor and the sheets help students see why the Venn diagram works. They are suitable for revision, reinforcement and extension work on prime factorisation. There is a lot of emphasis on being able to explain what key maths vocabulary means e.g. words like factor, multiple, prime. Most of the sheets have spaces for the answers to be written on. There is one sheet which contains similar questions with no working out space. Answers are provided. It begins with examples showing how centimetre cubes fit into larger boxes to explain where the formula comes from. There are practical examples plus extension activities for working out missing dimensions of sides and cubing numbers to find the volume of cubes. Enlarging shapes and converting cubic units are also mentioned. The three worksheets cover three different levels of difficulty and have problems similar to those in the powerpoint. Algebra and Shapes. Perimeter and Area Formulas

Algebra and Shapes. Perimeter and Area Formulas

(1)
This power point can be used very flexibly to teach, practise or revise various algebraic processes whilst also reminding students about the basic properties of shapes. The slides show a wide variety of shapes. For each shape students can create an expression or formula for its perimeter ( and also for the area for many of the shapes ). In doing this they can practise collecting like terms, using brackets in expressions ( and multiplying them out ). The formulas created can then be used to substitute numbers in or for rearranging work. There are two worksheets ( with answers ) to go with the powerpoint which concentrate on creating expressions for perimeters. GCSE 9-1 refsA1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, G4, G16, G17 For more resources like this please visit my shop at https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Skillsheets
Recognising Graphs from Equations

Recognising Graphs from Equations

(2)
These six worksheets show various graphs that have to be matched to their equations. There are separate worksheets for straight lines, quadratic, cubic and reciprocal graphs plus two mixed worksheets, one suitable for foundation level GCSE. The answers are all provided. The worksheets are also suitable for A-level students who need extra reinforcement. Some can be worked out using gradients and/or points where the graphs cross the axes or students can also practise simple transformations ( reflection and translation or combinations of these ). GCSE from 2015 reference A12 Recognise graphs of linear functions, quadratic functions, simple cubic functions and the reciprocal function. Also supports : A13 translations and reflections of functions A10 Identify and interpret gradients and intercepts of linear functions graphically A2 substitute numerical values into formulae For more resources like this please visit my shop at https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Skillsheets
SIMILAR SHAPES : Length, Area, Volume Ratios
Skillsheets

SIMILAR SHAPES : Length, Area, Volume Ratios

(2)
These 5 worksheets help to explain the effects of enlargement on the area and volume of a shape by looking at the length, area and volume ratios. This is an important topic that is often found difficult by many students. There are three basic worksheets introducing the idea then two pages of harder word problems for extension work. The first worksheet lets students calculate the surface area and volume of simple 1cm and 2cm cubes so they can create the ratios themselves and see how the area and volume ratios derive from the length ratio. Sheets 2 and 3 require students to use the relationships between the ratios to calculate missing areas and volumes. The two word problem sheets are similar to GCSE 9-1 exam questions. Pythagoras Questions

(3)
This resource consists of a power point lesson that can be used to teach or revise the use of Pythagoras’s Theorem and 11 worksheets for consolidation or revision. The theorem is used first in right-angled triangles then in isosceles triangles and for finding the length of the diagonals of rectangles. The worksheets provide a framework for calculating the distance between two points given as co-ordinates, there are grids to help students visualise the method. Other topics covered include areas and perimeters and also the properties of triangles and a triangular prism so that Pythagoras can be applied to solving more complicated problems.
