I use these line guides to enable children to write neat copies of poems and short pieces of prose onto plain A4 paper. The line guides are placed underneath the plain sheet, held in place by paper clips. They can be laminated to avoid children accidently writing on the guide!

This is a timeline of artists, composers and writers from 1840 to 1903. One sheet contains information which needs to be plotted onto the timeline. Children could cut out the information boxes and stick them on, or could write the information onto their timeline. This timeline would be part of a unit of study on the arts in Victorian times during which children would examine art, listen to music and read books from the time. This worksheet is also available as part of a larger resource set.

This resource consists of a simple colouring sheet, using addition or subtraction. I have also included a blank template for you to adapt for your own use.

This is a multiple choice quiz which I have given to my class at the end of our project on the Tudors and Stuarts to assess their understanding of the topic. It is not meant to be a very serious test, as you will see from some of the answer choices, but is a fun way to end the topic.

This is a timeline looking at major developments during the industrial revolution from 1750 to 1860. Children can cut out the information from the second sheet and stick them onto the timeline, or they can write the information on. You could adapt this by adding inventions and developments particularly relevant to your local area.

I usually photocopy this Elmer Template onto A3 paper and allow the children to decorate their Elmer as imaginatively as possible, using bright colours and patterns. When the children have completed their Elmers, I cut them out and they make a lovely classroom display.

I use the book The Ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lively as a class reader. I have made up these question sheets for each chapter of the book to help my Year 5/6 class to complete their reading logs as many of them find the language of the book quite difficult to understand. I have also attached the review and cover design sheets which I use.

This is a template of a picnic basket which can be used for children to plan their own lunch following on from reading The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. They can either draw the items in their basket or write them depending upon age and ability levels.

When making clay thumb pots, the children can design their pot on this sheet. They can create a pattern for the outside of the pot and an image to go inside. The pot templates can be adapted so that the children design Greek or Roman pots, or create special decorative pots for Mothers or Fathers day.

Romero Britto is a Brazilian artist who creates very colourful and patterned artworks. I have provided an example of a piece of art in his style, using my name. You could ask the class to do their names or to choose words like 'happy', 'friend', etc. Children really enjoy using as many bright colours and patterns as they can. The finished works make a stunning display. I have also included an information poster with an example of Romero Britto's work

This is a test that I have used with Year 5/6 students reviewing many aspects of English grammar that they will have studied during the year.

This is a simple sketch map of Roman Britain, showing the main roads, towns and forts. The children need to identify the numbered towns by their Roman names and their names in the present. I have used this with Key Stage 2 children as part of a history unit of study on The Romans. The second sheet provides the answers.

This is a test which I have given at the end of a unit of study on earthquakes and volcanoes with Year 5 or 6 classes. The test requires children to know about tectonic plates, the layers which make up the Earth and the different parts of a volcano.

This is a maths activity to do at the beginning of a term, (all becomes clear once you have cracked the code). The questions need to be answered using the four basic operations.

A crossword based on elements of English grammar and vocabulary. The answers are provided.

These two worksheets provide an introduction to the rules for turning singular nouns into plurals with some simple exercises to practise. The class can then reinforce their learning with more follow-up activities.

This worksheet encourages children to make inferences from information. It should make them think about what they do with their rubbish and how much recycling they and their families do.

These two worksheets look at adding a silent 'e' onto the ends of words, changing the vowel sound in the word. There are a series of sentences with missing words for the children to fill in.

I used these jigsaw pieces to make up teams within the class. Each member of the group has one piece of the jigsaw. They draw lots of things which are important to them; things that they like to do, their families, their favourite things, etc. My groups were teams of 9, but you could adapt this for your class. It was a nice activity for the beginning of the school year. The finished jigsaws make a colourful display in the classroom.
