Long Term Causes of World War I This is a two lesson looking at the MAIN causes of WWI starting with tensions between the Great Powers and looking at key themes such as Weltpolitik and Imperialism, Alliances and Nationalism and Militarism and Arms/ Naval races. Also includes the Moroccan and Bosnian crises (in brief!) Includes powerpoint, worksheets and several activities- including historiography and interpretations of Germany’s role in “starting WWI.” Suitable for KS3 or as an intro to KS4 unit on International relations.

This lesson is a fun and unusual way of introducing the great powers in 1900 and getting pupils to think about International Relations. I took the idea from a version of this at my training school but this is 100% my own version of it with added ridiculousness. It is by far the best introduction to International Relations for KS3 I have ever done. I’ve also used it for Year 10 studying International Relations pre WWI and it worked very well. This lesson is designed for KS3 but can also be used for Primary school or as an intro for KS4. This lesson is about Edward VI reign and impact of his short reign focused mainly on his reformation of the Church of England. This is part of my unit of work on the Tudors so if you want a bargain download the whole unit instead which has over 8 hours of learning for just £5. Suitable for non-specialists.

I have replanned this lesson 3 times and now I’m happy with it. Lesson examines- the nature of thematic learning- the content and an introduction to rebellion with parallels to 2022/ 2023 context. Card sort activity/ colour code to look for patterns over time in causation of rebellions Activity which recaps and consolidates knowledge from wars of the roses- if you have not studied WOR as Unit 1- you can use the basic info from the slide and adapt it. Also includes comprehensive course guide with reading lists, model answers, key vocabulary, key individuals of rebels and supporters of the crown, timeline, course overview and essay technique tips and past paper questions and example pink sheet.

Key Stage 4 or 3 Lesson on the League of Nations and why it failed to prevent war I devised a decision making game to try and make it a little more interesting and to get students to think more deeply about the motivations for the countries in the League in making their decisions not to sanction. This lesson looks at why the League did not stop the powerful nations in the 1930s through a decision making game.

Interpretations of Henry VIII- was he a Tyrant or Renaissance Prince? This lesson is designed for KS3 but is quite challenging so could be used for GCSE. I also have a whole unit of work on the Tudor monarchs for £15 which includes 10 lessons – plenty of high challenge and retrieval. You may want to buy that rather than individual lessons :)

Lesson inspired by Miranda Kaufmann’s Black Tudors book- stories of four inspiring Black individuals and what they can tell us about Black African people in Tudor England. This is also part of my unit of work on Tudor monarchs priced £6 for all the lessons if you would rather get more lessons on the Tudors for KS3. They are very high challenge and include a variety of retrieval tasks.

This is a KS3 lesson for Y7/8 and has quite a high challenge/ stretch and challenge for more able pupils. It follows on from my lesson on Henry VII and his problems and solutions and is best used with the attached glossary of key terms. It also addresses many of the misconceptions about Henry as a fat tyrannical ruler that we know he became later in his reign and looks at the optimism of a young Renaissance Prince- handsome and youthful in stark contrast to his father,

Lesson for GCSE History Weimar and Nazi Germany Edexcel spec but can easily be adapted to any other Germany spec which requires a lesson about the impact of WWI or indeed KS3 History. This is lesson 1 from my unit of work on Weimar Germany 1918-1929 Lesson 1: Intro to topic and WWI Context This lesson examines the impact of WWI on Germany following the Armistice setting context for the German Revolution. Also includes a map of Germany and details of political unrest in 1918. Fully resourced and includes link to youtube video. (History file). This quiz took about 10 hours of my life (that I will never get back!) to make but the students loved it- just the right balance of inappropriate to be funny but still all related to the Tudor Court, rebellions and key individuals. It is mainly a music quiz with some of the rebels, Tudor characters and noblemen being represented in song lyrics…in other cases the rebellions are represented by the song. There is a round on Tudor swear words and other random trivia. Answer sheet attached- slides plus answer sheet should be self explanatory but if you need anything explaining further email me- lasts about an hour and a half including marking and going through answers- I don’t play the whole songs- just the relevant extracts.
