Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

(2)
I made this resource for a borderline set of Year 9 students to help them practise the basics of changing the subject. I wanted to give them some physics formulae but didn’t want anything too complex, so made this little worksheet.
Factorising Non-Monic Quadratics by Inspection
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Factorising Non-Monic Quadratics by Inspection

(3)
This resource provides a structured approach for pupils to develop fluency in factorising harder quadratics by inspection. Initially some values are given - the difficulty level increases as the scaffolding is removed.

Designed for Higher Tier students working at a low Grade 4, this is a skills-based mini-assessment used to diagnose gaps at the start of an intervention. Needs 15 - 20 minutes. Images borrowed from Maths Genie and Corbett Maths, with thanks.

Quadratic formula homework

Quadratic formula homework

(1)
This is a Pret homework for the quadratic formula. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/.

Thinking about Gradient
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Thinking about Gradient

(2)
This worksheet is designed to be used in (or in advance of) a first lesson on calculus, before introducing differentiation from first principles. The aim of this worksheet is to explore what students already know about gradient and open their minds to the idea of finding the gradient of a curve.
S1 Revision Quizzes

S1 Revision Quizzes

(6)
Two quizzes for Edexcel Statistics 1 revision. One is very long - it covers everything! The other is just 10 questions so would work well as a warm-up in a revision lesson.
Edexcel Core 3 Revision Cards
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Edexcel Core 3 Revision Cards

(6)
These revision cards cover most Edexcel C3 topics and can be used as an individual or class activity. Individuals can ask friends/relatives to test them using these cards. For use in class, hand out one card per pupil. They circulate round the class, pairing up to ask and answer their questions, then swapping cards and pairing up with someone else. It's a nice active revision lesson. Please do let me know if I&'ve made any errors on these cards. C1/C2, S1 and S2 cards are also available.
'Correct Answer Only' A Level Maths Revision
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

'Correct Answer Only' A Level Maths Revision

(15)
Based on an idea by Stuart Price (@sxpmaths), these ‘Correct Answer Only’ activities are for C1, C2, C3 and C4. They are designed for the Edexcel specification but use past OCR exam questions. Students work on their own to complete 8 questions, then submit their final answers for marking. They simply get a tick or cross for each answer and then have to re-try anything they get wrong. These typically take a good 30 - 45 minutes to complete and are cheap to print (one A4 sheet per student) so perfect for A level revision.
C1 Indices - Exponential Equations
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

C1 Indices - Exponential Equations

(23)
This is a worksheet for C1 students studying indices. It covers simple exponential equations of the type where you make the bases the same and set the exponents equal to each other. Requires knowledge of index laws and factorising quadratics but not logs. Answers provided. May also be suitable as extension work at GCSE.
Metric Unit Conversions
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Metric Unit Conversions

(11)
A simple worksheet or quiz on metric unit conversions. Useful in class at KS3 or for GCSE revision at KS4. Also included is guidance for GCSE teachers on what unit conversion students need to memorise and which ones are provided in their GCSE exams. Word versions are provided for editing if required.
Breakfast Revision: Higher GCSE Workout

Breakfast Revision: Higher GCSE Workout

(19)
These revision activities are for Higher GCSE 9 -1. Students work through the questions on the sheet to revise facts and procedures for a range of topics. There are two sheets: one non-calculator and one calculator. I designed these for pre-exam breakfast revision sessions for a group of students working at grades 6 - 8. There are four separate workouts, each should take 15 - 30 minutes. Answers are provided. If you find any errors please let me know. For a similar but longer version of this task, designed for a one hour revision lesson, visit this link: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/higher-gcse-revision-workout-calculator-11630772
GCSE Calculator Revision Mats Set 2: Higher and Foundation

GCSE Calculator Revision Mats Set 2: Higher and Foundation

(9)
These resources are for mixed-topic calculator GCSE revision. This is my second set of calculator revision mats, the first set is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-calculator-revision-mats-higher-and-foundation-12119735 and there is a third set here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-calculator-revision-mats-set-3-higher-and-foundation-12134794. There are four levels: Foundation is aimed at students working at Grades 1 - 3 Foundation Plus is aimed students working at Grades 3 - 5 Higher is aimed at students working at Grades 4 - 6 Higher Plus is aimed at students working at Grades 6 - 9. I printed onto two sheets of A3 (stapled) but they would work on A4 too. Answers are provided. Editable versions are provided in case you want to change some questions to suit the level of your students. Some images/questions are borrowed from CIMT/TRoL. Hope these are helpful. If you spot an error please let me know (@mathsjem).
Year 12 Maths Entry Assessment
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Year 12 Maths Entry Assessment

(12)
This assessment tests basic pre-requisite maths skills on entry to A level. It's editable so if you like the format but don't like the questions, feel free to change them! The idea is to give this 15 minute test in the first maths lesson of Year 12 in order to identify any students who need immediate intervention. The intervention sessions can then be tailored to specific skills eg a session on expanding brackets, and a separate session on solving equations. This assessment is print-friendly (one side of A4) and quick to mark. Teachers can complete the mini-feedback sheet for each student and staple it to their assessment, with details of upcoming intervention sessions.
New AS Maths: Key Facts Quiz (Statistics)
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

New AS Maths: Key Facts Quiz (Statistics)

(11)
I have adapted my old S1/S2 quizzes to make a quiz suitable for the new AS maths statistics content. This is useful for students to test themselves on facts and definitions at home. Pure version here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-as-maths-key-facts-quiz-pure-11914367
Investigating Skewness
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Investigating Skewness

(9)
In this activity pupils calculate the median and mean of three data sets and consider whether mean or median is the better measure of location in each case. This prompts class discussion about the impact of outliers in a data set. A number of other discussion points may arise - see notes. This activity could be used at the start of a lesson on skewness. A word copy is attached for editing if required.
Angles in Parallel Lines: Comparing Methods
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Angles in Parallel Lines: Comparing Methods

(5)
In this activity students have to solve angle problems and specify each angle fact that they used in a grid. They then compare their methods to those used by their partner - the idea is to generate class discussion about alternative methods.
