I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. Students color the alphabet letters and then decide upon and draw their own illustrations for each letter of the traditional Spanish alphabet. The booklet contains 32 pages: the title page with 30 additional pages for each letter of the traditional Spanish alphabet and an end page. This download also includes several suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Suggested uses include: students share completed booklets with the class or with a partner, students read to a family member at home, students use alphabet pages as flashcards to practice and learn new vocabulary, teacher projects the blank booklet onto the Smart Board and have students do quick sketches for each letter and teacher scans sample booklets to share student work with the class. Both versions can be used for interactive notebook activities. 10 pages

The skit includes the use of necesitar plus infinitive, estar, hay, 4 color words, and 5 different school supplies. Included are notebooks, folders, pens, pencils and eraser. There are several useful phrases such as por fin, vale, gracias por, de nada, por favor, and algo más. Included in the download: 1. Skit in Spanish and English, copied 2 per page for student handouts. 2. Skit in Spanish only, copied 2 per page for student handouts. This can be used as a translation assignment. 3. Skit in large font that can be projected and used for presenting and practicing vocabulary as a class. Some of the vocabulary and phrases are also in a separate list at the top to facilitate vocabulary practice of individual words and phrases.

Spanish Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos Fallen Phrases - This activity provides a unique way for students to write Spanish sentences that utilize common Day of the Dead vocabulary (pierced paper, bread of the dead, cemetery, food, photo, altar, marigolds, family, sugar skulls, etc.) and the verbs gustar and encantar. Spanish Cognate Human Bingo Get to Know You Activity - Help beginning students get to know their classmates and build confidence about learning Spanish with this fun ice-breaker cognate activity. They'll be reading, comprehending, and speaking Spanish right from the start! Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must ask classmates if the grid facts apply to them. The grids contain sentences such as toco un instrumento en la banda. There will be words that students don't know, but all squares contain easily recognizable cognates that will help students navigate meaning. When a student replies yes that a fact applies, the name is written in the box. When a student fills the entire grid, he says Bingo! The download includes a follow-up written assignment. Students are to write what they think each sentence means and write the Spanish cognate for 6 clip art images. Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must find different classmates that can reply yes to the questions in each of the 16 boxes. Each box contains a question with a stem change verb that must be conjugated. The type of stem change is included for student reference. A sample question is: ¿Almorzar (o-ue) en la cafetería todos los días? When a student replies yes to a question, the questioning student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. The goal is to be the first student to fill the entire bingo grid. Verbs used include: cerrar, volver, poder, soñar con, querer, empezar, preferir, devolver, reír, pensar, medir, mentir, servir, recordar, competir, and probar. Also included is a follow up worksheet that requires students to: 1. Write a sentence for each of the 16 boxes in the grid. The student includes the name of the student that signed the box and must change the verb to the third person. 2. Provide the English meaning of each verb. 3. Write an appropriate Spanish stem change infinitive under 6 images at the bottom of the paper. This is a great back to school speaking review activity for students with prior Spanish experience.

Introduce your students to Spanish culture! These booklets contain many things for which Spain is famous such as flamenco, bullfighting, running of the bulls, soccer, olives, castles, cathedrals, Iberian ham and Don Quixote. Students first cut, assemble and read the booklet that contains text and illustrations. They then create their own version using the text only template. Each booklet contains 12 pages: the title page with 11 additional pages. This item also includes suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary words. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text. The booklets are also helpful additions to interactive notebooks. 8 pages

Challenge your students to assemble this 4 x 4 square bilingual puzzle with common French and English sports words! This is great hands on activity for vocabulary building with sports words. The puzzle contains a few cognates, but most of the 26 words are not. Sample words included are: aviron, corrida, equitation, être pom-pom, lutte, natation, pelote basque, and blanche à neige. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip.
