TUNED / KEYBOARD | Hallowe'en

TUNED / KEYBOARD | Hallowe'en

Quick one-off lesson for KS2 or KS3 for Hallowe'en. Good for looking at sharp and natural notes as well as crotchet and quaver rhythms. Print out the sheet if pupils need to write the notes on. Singing: Michael Jackson's Thriller (verse and chorus) Tune: In the Hall of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg If you have pupils that really struggle or are really low ability then you could always get them to play the bass part on keyboard, glockenspiel or even bass: B E B E... Note: make sure to install the fonts to ensure it looks as intended.

TUNED / KEYBOARD | 3 Easy Classical Pieces

TUNED / KEYBOARD | 3 Easy Classical Pieces

In preparation for BBC Music Ten Pieces, I thought I would introduce some Classical Music to KS2 pupils on the glockenspiel, whether you use these for keyboard or even Ukulele. I will probably use them for Ukulele along with my Glockenspiel classes (Y4).

SAMBA | Swashbuckle Samba (Pirate Themed) [6 weeks]

SAMBA | Swashbuckle Samba (Pirate Themed) [6 weeks]

I love this topic for teaching kids about Carnivals and how Samba Schools set a theme for their song and costumes. This is a good one for performing as well as kids can always get dressed up themselves for it. There is a mixture of Sea Shanties and Pirate-related songs (though I'm sure you can think of more), pirate-themed rhythms and call & responses also Pirate-themed. I have included an audio sample of how the group rhythms should sound together. If you are unsure of how to perform the other rhythms see my FREE Grid Method resource. NOTE: make sure to install all fonts so that the Powerpoints look as intended.

Musical Assessment Activity

Musical Assessment Activity

Assess your students through this fun finger trail activity! I use it for exit tickets but you can adapt it to fit your needs. Project onto the board or blank wall and invite each student to trace the melodic line while the class sings, or the student sings independently. It helps teach the 'road map' of a refrain, while mostly staying true to pre-reading skills of left-to-right motion. A beautiful illustration engages children. For learners needing texture, print this out onto photo paper and mount to foam poster board. Use a small pen tip or equivalent, punch small holes on each white dot, creating a concave path for fingers to travel.

UKULELE | Jazz & Blues [6 lessons]

UKULELE | Jazz & Blues [6 lessons]

I will be using this for my KS2 Ukulele class who've already done a year learning basic chords, bits of strumming, singing, locating frets and the likes (mostly just singing through pop songs and strumming chords). There are some more advanced chords used in this topic as well as a (predominant) focus on plucking and reading tab/fret numbers. There are 2-3 blues songs, 2-3 jazz pieces and 2-3 pop-jazz songs to play through. Some are just the main riff, some are chords that last the whole piece. This is a 6-7 week course with each week laid out with objectives and chance to tick them off at the end of each lesson. NOTE: You will need to install the fonts for it to look as I have made it.
