Print on cardstock and cut apart into individual cards. Make 1 set for every 2-6 students. The object of the game is to collect a full family - 6 cards. The player with the most families at the end is the winner. Deal 6 cards per person. Remaining cards are placed in a draw pile. Player 1 asks a player of his/her choice for a card belonging to a specific family. In order to make the request, the player must already have at least 1 card belonging to that family. “Dans la famille (cuisine), je demande (specific card).” If that player has the card, he/she hands it over. Player 1 continues asking for cards until he/she does not get what is requested, at which time he/she draws a card from the pile. Player 2 then takes his/her turn.

Silver: translating into English, similar to bronze but with some longer expressions (at the sea side, in a village, etc) and some intensifiers added. Gold: translating into French. This activity can be used for either French or Spanish at KS3. Students are given 5 sentences in English on the topic of town to translate into the target language in increasing difficulty. They must work in groups or pairs to translate them one at a time getting them checked by you and correcting as quickly as possible. Full instructions are included in the activity. This activity is fantastic for developing students writing and proof reading skills and for addressing common mistakes in an engaging fashion. Could be extended by asking students to pick a sentence and extending it as far as they can. Makes a good plenary task.

Creative group writing activity to encourage students to use a range of tenses and vocabulary in their writing. Once completed ask each group to present their work to the class, encourage active listening by gathering feedback from listening groups or asking them to answer questions about the other groups’ work. Key vocabulary to support students included on the power point. Ideal for year 9 up. Differentiated by type of town the group is asked to design, entertainment and tourism would be better suited to lower ability groups and eco-town would be suited to higher ability. You may also choose to adapt the fourth person’s task for lower ability classes.
