GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 2

GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 2

These German speaking practice cards are really popular with my students. There are 50 questions, with 50 suggested responses, and students can work their way through them at their own pace. I’ve found them to be very successful in terms of helping my students develop the confidence to speak German, which many try to avoid at all costs! As they become more proficient and confident, they can move away from the suggested questions and answers, and begin to formulate their own, using the existing cards as a reference frame - I give them a card template for this, and I’ve included one here too. There are quite a few games students can play, and I’ve described some of my most popular. I always lamina te my cards - they last for years, and are definitely easier to work with in the classooom. The language is more Intermediate German, and definitely with a real cultural flavour. I give my students regular opportunities to work with the cards, and they really enjoy working independently. I’ve written all the questions and answers in the reference booklet - we use this for a longer-term reading and writing reference resource too. This resource has two wo non-editable files in a zipped format. I’d be grateful if you would follow my TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for the purchaser’s use only - if your colleagues in the department want to use the resource, please purchase a whole-school license. Colleagues and/or friends further afield must make their own purchase. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß IN DER DEUTSCHSTUNDE!

EINKAUFSLISTEN - Ideen Deutsch, German Sprechen+Schreiben. Rezepte, Essen, Trinken, Shopping List

Herzlichst, Cindy Kühne ❤️ About me ❤️ Hi there 👋🏼! I´m Cindy from Leipzig, Germany. I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. German Key Stage 3 - Technology and Free time activities - New GCSE-style questions

German Key Stage 3 - Technology and Free time activities - New GCSE-style questions

This 61 page booklet (including answers) contains new GCSE style reading, writing, speaking and translation questions for Key Stage 3 students. The booklet contains activities on the topics of ‘technology in everyday life’ and ‘free-time activities’, from the AQA theme Identity and Culture. There are 6 subtopics: Technology in everyday life, sports, TV/film, music, eating out, and festivals. For each of these subtopics, there are 6 activities: a reading task, translation (short paragraph) from German into English, sentences to translate from English into German, a writing task (short passage similar to the foundation writing exam), a photo (like in the foundation writing exam) and a role-play. There are also 6 extension activities which bring together all of the subtopics: a longer reading task, a paragraph translation from English into German, a 90-word task, a 150-word task and a photo card (like in the speaking exam). This booklet can be used in KS3 or for revision in KS4 (foundation). It can either be used to supplement work in lessons as you teach the topics of technology and free-time, or for assessments. It could also be set as cover work, as the answers are included. A free sample of the booklet is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-key-stage-3-technology-new-gcse-style-activities-11947388

German thinking skills: Easter, Ostern - logic puzzle, foundation + higher levels

German thinking skills: Easter, Ostern - logic puzzle, foundation + higher levels

Ostern: At two ability levels, this German Easter resource contains all necessary ingredients for learners to resolve the puzzle. Cue cards with puzzle clues, cue cards with pictures and names, grids to enter their solution and more. There is a bi-lingual German-English vocabulary list to support learners depending on their ability and knowledge. The foundation-level puzzle comes with a play mat onto which learners will place picture cards as they read through and discuss the clues and solve the puzzle. The higher-level puzzle comes with an A3-sized mat which will enable learners to eliminate combinations as they get closer to solving the puzzle. This puzzle appears to be getting more difficult as it progresses, so always make sure your answers fit the clues on the cards! A document with suggestions for use and differentiation is included. Out of fairness to me and to reflect the time I spent putting this activity together, please be sure to purchase a school license if you intend to use these as a whole school initiative. Thank you. ©MosaiK

Pied Piper of Hamelin 6 Weeks of English

Pied Piper of Hamelin 6 Weeks of English

I used this with my Year 4 class but it could easily be adapted to fit a different year group. It is 6 weeks of work based on The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Michael Morpurgo. Week 1: Punctuating speech and organising paragraphs focus based on Little Red Riding Hood (part of our topic work was Grimm stories so I started with one they’d know). Week 2: Writing diaries Week 3 & 4: Writing a narrative Week 5 & 6: Writing arguments Each lesson has a SMART document for input, some include starter activities, all include a shared read/example using features I would want them to use. A success criteria grid is also included for each lesson and I have included my planning overview for the half term, which states the objectives covered in the unit. The only things which may need changing are the ‘for’ and ‘against’ lessons in the arguments section, as they involve an iPad app called Padlet, which is unfortunately no longer free to use. This could easily be changed to giant flipchart paper on each table though to create banks of ideas.

GERMAN CONVERSATION CARDS

GERMAN CONVERSATION CARDS

THE IDEAL SET OF RESOURCES TO GIVE YOUR STUDENTS LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP CONFIDENCE IN SPEAKING - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH A FOCUS ON BEGINNING AND GENERAL CONVERSATION, CULTURAL INFORMATION AND SEPARABLE VERBS IN BOTH THE PRESENT AND PERFECT TENSE - 400 QUESTION & ANSWER CARDS WITH REFERENCE RESOURCE BOOKLETS Perfect for speaking practice, and multi-skill language learning, this combined pack of TALK TIME IN GERMAN, SETS 1,2 3 and 4, provides 400 question and answer prompt cards that give your students structured talk opportunities, and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. Set 1 focuses on beginning conversation, and Set 2 takes this further, with a flavor of cultural information. Sets 3 & 4 focus on 25 high-frequency separable verbs, in both the present and the perfect tense. Students often find these quite tricky, but will certainly be able to get to grips with the structure of questions and sentences with regular practice. The prompt cards also feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their GERMAN learning, including modal verbs, word order, case and prepositions governed by the accusative and dative. The REFERENCE BOOKLETS include all the questions and answers written out in full in GERMAN. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. Encourage students to use the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. There is also an alphabetical verb reference list in the Sets 3 & 4 workbooks. The QUESTION AND ANSWER WRITING TEMPLATES give students the opportunity to apply their GERMAN very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too. You can also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with. The resource consists of eight non-editable files in a zipped format The sets are also available individually if you prefer, each priced at $4.00. Students should ideally have their own individual reference booklet that they can keep in their learning folders to use for reference, practice and revision when they need to. Berlin Wall Escape Room

Berlin Wall Escape Room

Let history come to life with an escape room lesson! Get students to puzzle their way through the history of the Berlin Wall, trying to stay in touch with their long lost friend Thomas on the other side of the wall. Engage students with a story website that will require them to work through a mix of text, video, jigsaw puzzles, codes and crossword puzzles to find their friend (and claim a prize?). This resource can be used as a revision lesson on the topic of the Berlin Wall or, with some internet research by the students, as a first introduction to the topic. It should take between 45 min and 2 hours, depending on age and prior knowledge. Little preparation by the teacher except for printing (if you choose the digital version of the jigsaw puzzle). As a native of Berlin I have been teaching this topic as part of my German lessons for about 10 years now. On the 3rd October, German national day, all my classes (aged 13-18) get a one lesson run through of the history of the wall and students are always fascinated by it. The topics covered here are: • the situation of Germany under the occupation of the allies after the war • the differences between East and West • why people escaped to the West • the building of the wall • what is the Stasi • what led to the fall of the wall • what happened on the 9th of November 1989 Includes: • link to dedicated story website • documents, excel and powerpoint files • puzzles • lesson plan • answers I have also included a powerpoint presentation of statistics showing the present-day differences between former East and West Germany and a collection of my favourite youtube videos on the topic.

German Escape Room for GCSE food and hobbies

A lesson that your students will not forget quickly! A spy themed escape room activity in which students need to solve German language related puzzles to get a code to jump from one website to the next in search of the German spy . Ideal as vocab and grammar revision for year 10 or 11 (based on GCSE Stimmt but compatible with other books). Will keep them focused even in the last lesson before the holidays! It focuses on vocab and research on German food but includes vocab from the topics school and hobbies, and practises word order and past participles. There is a “digital only” version and a" digital+paper" version. The “digital+paper” version is more fun because it involves the game website and paper puzzles that make the activities more “real”, but requires quite a bit of preparation by the teacher. The “digital only” version only requires one printout can be done last minute. The resource includes: Link to “Findet den Spion!” website and introduction video.
