I´m Cindy from Leipzig, Germany. I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. All of my resources have been tested in class and will be updated regularly. Please rate my resources to help me build a reputation among millions of resources. Thanks for working with me ☺️ Cindy ❤️ Please see my other resources, too: [https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/CindyKuehne]

Using the comparative - The Voice of Germany

Using the comparative - The Voice of Germany

In this lesson, students watch two performances of the Voice of Germany. They are encouraged to scribble down adjectives while they are watching which describe their first impressions on the singers. Then, they read a text comparing both and choosing one over the other - they are supposed to write a text similar to that one but with their own opinion. The previous lessons we had been studying the comparative. The model text can be updated and improved. It pairs well with pages 30 and 31 of the Stimmt! 3 Textbook.

GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

This contains a whole film project about "Goodbye Lenin" which I used for my year 10 groups over 2 weeks (7 lessons). We did it at the end of "Zeit fuer Freizeit" unit from the Stimmt 9-1 Higher textbook to expose pupils to an authentic German film full of culture. In the Power Point you have an outline of how I structured the lessons + activities from the booklet. I created also a booklet for pupils with all activities around the film. Over the course of the lessons pupils will explore the historical East vs West Germany division, the concepts of Wende and Ostalgie and loads of activities on the film. The year 10s loved the whole project and motivation was high since they are a very clever group. At the same time they loved doing something which is usually required at A-level. At the end of the PPT and the booklet you also find the questions for the speaking assessment and a writing assessment task in the new GCSE style! It worked so well!

German Music Quiz with Medley of German songs

German Music Quiz with Medley of German songs

This quiz is based on a six minute medley of German songs and it is aimed at intermediate German learners. It would be ideal as an introduction to the topic of music or as a fun game at the end of term. It includes 12 different genres of music from folk to heavy metal and an exercise on description words to give opinions about music. If played in teams it usually takes about 20-30 min - students answer questions about the genre, description and content and guess which band picture goes with which song.

Here is an idea how to add more authentic resources as asked for in the new specifications. This is a worksheet and a presentation based on a German pop song and includes a gap fill, a translation task and a creative project. The song is slow and suitable for beginners but is ideally used after the introduction of numbers and plurals. (E.g. in chapter 2 of Stimmt 1). This download includes a PowerPoint with an introduction, the answer to the tasks and a translation of the text, a worksheet and a lesson plan. Note: This unit of work is based on the song Einmal by Die Prinzen. Please make sure you can access it on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZHrsf4xDE4 or somewhere else before buying. The song is not included.

Gesang, Rhythmen und Reime - German Chants SHORT SAMPLE MUSIC Sound bites

Gesang, Rhythmen und Reime - German Chants SHORT SAMPLE MUSIC Sound bites

Gesang, Rhythmen und Reime - German Chants, Rhythms and Rhymes for the German Classroom is a collection of purposeful chants and rhythms set to all types of music, both the traditional and the modern music of which present- day Germans are so fond. Because these chants are not actually sung, all students, even those who can't carry a tune, can participate. These chants are better described as being musically accompanied rhythmic recitations. Music and rhythm are very powerful tools for language learning. What is learned with music is remembered for hours and hours after the class and for many years after the course. There are many ways to use music in the class. I have suggested a few ways to use these chants, but there are many other ways not mentioned here. You or your students or may come up with many more ideas as time goes on. One easy way is to use the cloze activities as a musical dictation both before the song is learned (or as it is) then again after. Recite or sing. You may also use pictures for many of these songs. The packet includes instructions, table of contents for the whole series, the script, a cloze script (fill-in-the-blanks) , questions and pictures for flashcards to be used as a review worksheet or as individual flashcards. German musical rap-like chants (with MP3 and exercises) packets from this collection are: Gut und Schlecht - German Musical Chant About Expressions With “Haben” Im Zoo - German Musical Chant About the Conversational Past + “war” In der Schule – German Musical Chant About School Objects and Imperatives In der Stadt - German Musical Chant About Town Vocabulary and Prepositions Brigitta – German Musical Chant About Romance, Dative and Accusative Preps Das Wetter - German Musical Chant About Weather Der erste Schultag - German Musical Chant About School Vocab and Imperatives Der Körper - German Musical Chant About the Body and Imperatives Die Familie - German Musical Chant About Family and Genitive Case Klamottten - German Musical Chant About Clothing and Adjectives Klassenausflug - German Musical Chant About Trip Vocabulary, Pronouns and Case Klatschen - German Musical Chant About Modals Mein Haus - German Musical Chant About House and Rooms Vocabulary Mein Tag - German Musical Chant About Reflexive Personal Verbs Obstsalat - German Musical Chant About Fruit, “to Like” Expressions Spass mit Verben – Very Cool German Musical Chant Conjugating ANY Verb ANY Tense Was, Wann und Wie - German Musical Chant Comparing All Verb Forms Woher kommst du? - German Musical Chant About Countries, Capitals, Nationalities Mein Beruf- German Musical Chant Teaching Professions

World War 2 Music (1930's - 1940's music)

This is a 6 lesson topic exploring the music listened to and played during World War 2. The children will develop an understanding of the styles of music civilians and soldiers were listening to during the 1930's and 1940's including Vera Lynn, George Formby, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc. They will also learn how to play a simple swing/jazz piece of music (C Jam Blues), develop their improvisation skills and sing a fun Glenn Miller inspired song. By the end of the topic the class will have a good understanding of the music of World War 2, the instruments that make a jazz/big band, the role music and songs played during the war, what swing music is and how to improvise using the pentatonic scale. Overall, this topic will help children develop a range of skills including listening and appraisal, singing, musical instrument playing, improvising and performing.
