This 58 page booklet (including answers) contains new GCSE style reading, writing, speaking and translation questions for Key Stage 3 students. This booklet contains activities on the topic of Me, my family and friends, from the AQA theme Identity and Culture. There are 6 subtopics: Introducing myself, family members, pets, physical appearance, personality and relationships. For each of these subtopics, there are 6 activities: a reading task, translation (short paragraph) from German into English, sentences to translate from English into German, a writing task (short passage similar to the foundation writing exam), a photo (like in the foundation writing exam) and a role-play. There are also 6 extension activities which bring together all of the subtopics: a longer reading task, a paragraph translation from English into German, a 90-word task, a 150-word task and a photo card (like in the speaking exam). This booklet can be used in KS3 or for revision in KS4 (foundation). It can either be used to supplement work in lessons as you teach the topic of me, my family and friends, or for assessments. It could also be set as cover work, as the answers are included. A free sample of the booklet is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/key-stage-3-german-introducing-myself-11897107

WAS DENKST DU? German Quotes + sayings for speaking / discussion, topics: love and money; Deutsch

❤️ WAS DENKST DU? ❤️ German Quotes and sayings for classroom discussions, speaking activities and writing. Just print, laminate and use over and over again. I have had great lessons using quotes and sayings in class. The two topics money and love make it easy for any student to contribute to a discussion or give their opinion in written form. ❤️ About me ❤️ Hi there 👋🏼! I´m Cindy from Leipzig, Germany. I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. All of my resources have been tested in class and will be updated regularly. Please rate my resources to help me build a reputation among millions of resources. Thanks for working with me ☺️ Cindy ❤️ Please see my other resources, too: [https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/CindyKuehne]

Differentiation - German sentence starters - word order and opinions

Differentiation - German sentence starters - word order and opinions

I designed this lesson for a group of students who struggled to give opinions in German, whilst using sentence starters such as Meiner Meaning each, Meines Erachtens, Ich denke, dass...... 4 powerpoint slides contained. Slide 1 & 2 should be laminated and given to students and put onto a keyring to support leaners. (This helps weaker students and it is a good strategy to help PP students, who may not have access to self-help guides). Slide 1 details 5 complex sentence starters and gives examples of how they work. Slide 2 contains 'wow words' to finish opinions - positive and negative phrases. (Relating to the topic of marriage) Slide 3 - Contains rules for an exciting game of 'Sentence Auctions.' Each student starts off with 140 Euros. Sentences displayed worth different amounts. Sentences displayed are both correct and incorrect. If you bid for a correct sentence, you win that amount. If you don’t bet, and the sentence is incorrect, nothing happens. If you bet, and the sentence is incorrect, you deduct that amount. If you don’t bet and the sentence is correct, you deduct that amount. Slide 4 - Students compete against each other, responding to a mixture of correct and incorrect sentences on mini-whiteboards, focusing on word order.

Great German Insults (classroom-friendly) Aimed at Y9

Great German Insults (classroom-friendly) Aimed at Y9

Some non-rude German insults aimed at a small group of year 9s. Aim of making the language seem a bit more fun. This is supposed to be a bit of funny lesson, and it's all fairly light-hearted. Ways to use resource: 1) Give out copy of the sheets and go through pronunciation of each one. Make sure pupils know where the stress lies - call and repeat. Included in one example is a video from Friends to demonstrate Joey's cute simpleness. Stop it after 20 seconds, as that gets the point across. 2) Sheet three is to see if they can correctly identify the appropriate insult for the people listed :D 3) If you felt it was appropriate (though I think you'd only do this with certain classes), you could get them to write an insult for a friend - be careful though in case some pupils are not high attainers, as they might take it to heart if they get called an "Evolutionsbremse") This will take roughly 20-30 minutes.

German KS2 & KS3 - Creating Funny Families. (Self & Family)

German KS2 & KS3 - Creating Funny Families. (Self & Family)

This set of resources is an excellent way to finish work on self and family. It will take at least 4 lessons. There is a build up to the main activity when pupils work in groups and create their own funny families, which they present to the rest of the class. I have used this over many years with many groups and have refined it. I can honestly say pupils love doing it. Everything is presented in a step-by-step format and could be used by a non-specialist or cover teacher. There are two Power Points and range of worksheets. The first PowerPoint is to re-cap work on self and family and will be a lead into the main activity. In this first PowerPoint three members of the same family present information about themselves – the first very simply, the next has more information and the third is a longer text. For the first two family members there are differentiated exercises – very simple with circling the correct answer or true and false to open ended questions. You can choose to use different tasks for different ability groups within the class or it can all be used for the whole class. The second PowerPoint introduces the group activity in a step-by-step way. Pupils will work in groups to create a funny family, but each person in the group will be responsible for one family member so ultimately each pupil will be producing their own piece of work. There are several help sheets for pupils of all abilities and there are answers for all exercises included. Finally the pupils will present their families in groups to the rest of the class. They can be assessed on the written work produced and/or the oral presentation.
