French Class Daily Activity - Quel temps fait-il?

French Class Daily Activity - Quel temps fait-il?

This is an activity that my students and I do to start class every day. No lesson on weather is needed when it is done every day! I have all of these weather cards posted in one of my classroom windows. When the question "Quel temps fait-il?" is asked at the beginning of every class, the designated weather person takes whichever cards the class says and sticks them to the wall. For the first year students, simply start each class by pointing to the words (with accompanying pictures) as you read them aloud and have them say "oui" or "non". Eventually, they will start saying the words on their own. Finally, they will be able to do the activity by themselves while you can take roll, redirect off-task students, answer an urgent email, etc. By the end of the first semester, your students will be very strong in telling the weather with accuracy in both content and pronunciation. A Complete Guide to Adverbs in French.

A Complete Guide to Adverbs in French.

This PowerPoint introduces pupils to adverbs; what they are, how to recognize them, and how to form them. The slides contain grammar notes that pupils can note in their exercise books and use as a reference for all future work using adverbs. The ways to form regular adverbs are demonstrated and also irregular forms are introduced. There is also a worksheet, which accompanies the PowerPoint. This is a tried and tested method to ensure comprehension and check the ability to confidently recognise and form adverbs.

Authentic French reading/translation with parallel text - My Childhood Town / Where I used to live

Authentic French reading/translation with parallel text - My Childhood Town / Where I used to live

I wrote this text myself in French and accompanied it with the parallel English text. I use it to introduce and revise topic vocabulary (Where I used to live when I was younger / my childhood town). The line numbers are great for reading for gist and specific information and you can also play many games to introduce and consolidate vocabulary and structures. Amusez-vous bien! You could also use it as the basis for a comprehension activity, a translation

Back to School Vocabulary in French (Vocabulaire de la rentrée scolaire)

Back to School Vocabulary in French (Vocabulaire de la rentrée scolaire)

Matériel à imprimer, découper et plastifier. Ce document contient 69 mots de vocabulaire se rapportant à l'école. Chaque mot est accompagné d'un déterminant et d'une image. Très utile pour le coin lecture et écriture ainsi que pour les classes d'immersion française. P.S.: Pour certains mots, j'ai mis deux termes différents; celui qu'on utilise au Canada et celui qu'on utilise en France.

Asterix Wordsearch French Cartoon Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

Asterix Wordsearch French Cartoon Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

Wordsearch on the theme of 'Asterix'. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

French - School subjects

French - School subjects

Use this PPT to introduce school subjects. Start by getting the pupils to identify opinion phrases from the text and then school subjects. Then introduce the school subjects formally using the following slides. Then there's a 'hands up' activity to keep the class on their toes, followed by a simple matching of opinion phrases. Finally, use the Follemathiques activity to add a competitive edge to the lesson.
