Les catastrophes naturelles

Activity based on an article published in Le Monde in Sept 17 which explores the relationship between the rise in natural catastrophes and climate change in the aftermath of the series of deadly hurricanes which have hit the US and the Caribbean in the Summer of 2017. This resource is an IB-style (Paper 1) reading comprehension for French B Higher Level students. It can also be used for A2 students, or students wanting to take the DELF B2/C1 exam.

I created this resource as part of a unit on education. It explores the strengths and weaknesses of different school systems around the world and gets students to think about how they learn and how different school systems attempt to provide the best answer to today's challenges around education. All sources are authentic (1 radio programme and 3 videos) and the links are on the worksheet. It is also an opportunity for students to learn and practise new vocabulary, as well as revise/learn about conjunctions that call for the subjunctive (bien que, pour que, sans que, etc.). This activity represents 1200 minutes of class work. This activity is ideal for A2 students, IB Higher level students or B2 level students.

A lesson on volunteering and charity work. Includes a photo to describe, a reading comprehension, a group work, and an outline of a writing task. I also included two activities based on authentic French resources on volunteering which probably may be more suitable for higher ability students: a translation into English and a reading with a potential extension writing activity.

Quelle attitudes envers les marginalisés?

One lesson encouraging students to think of the situation of handicapped people in the society, including a stimulus for a whole class speaking, a reading comprehension with a short translation, and two stimulus cards you can use for in-class practise speaking (I encourage students to make more questions for a follow up discussion).

Lesson with differentiated activities throughout. This is lesson 2 on the environment topic that I have covered with my class. Lesson 1 is available on the TES. Students will cover some present tense with je and nous and some negations. There is also a game ( blind noughts and crosses) and the starter task is a practice for the picture based discussion /or photo task on the foundation writing paper. Every tasks are linked to GCSE grades and there are mini-plenaries to check student's progress.

Year 11 AQA writing skills set of 2 lessons

Lesson 1: AQA mark scheme is analysed by students before attempting a GCSE style task. Students are given the choice between a foundation task and a higher task. Students are given 30 minutes to complete the task and they then peer-assess each other using the AQA mark scheme printed for them. Lesson 2 : Improving writing skills. Students reflects on WWW/EBI of their writing task. I have then created examples of answers for grades 1/ 3 / 5 for the foundation task and grades 5 / 7 / 9 for the higher task. Students have to complete a range of activities on the model answers. They need to identify key elements in each answer and they have to grade each of the model answers justifying their grading. After students have understood the success criteria they have to design their own model answer to the writing task. All activities are done in ability groups. Answers created in groups should then be peer- assessed by another group. teacher to photocopy and give exemplar model answer to all students ( once it has been marked ).
