German Tourist Attractions Starter Activity Keywords KS3 GCSE Wordsearch Anagrams Crossword Cover

German Tourist Attractions Starter Activity Keywords KS3 GCSE Wordsearch Anagrams Crossword Cover

German Tourist Attractions Keyword vocabulary activities. There are at least: 1 x Wordsearch 1 x Anagram sheet 1 x Crossword Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

German - Places in town

German - Places in town

When you click on the slide, the picture very slowly reveals. Pupils could then, with the vocab in front of them, race to be the first to name the place. The final slide is a game of our famous 'Donate or Steal'. In teams (blue & red), pupils answer a question and choose a square from the opponents’ grid. Their opponents then get that score. They are allowed to steal one score only from their opponents throughout the game. An ‘X’ is a wipeout and wipes the opponents’ score.

Meine Gegend - improving writing skills

Meine Gegend - improving writing skills

Swap and score writing activity in German based on the practice in our school's English department. (Usually takes 2 lessons) Here is how I approach this... 1) Teacher looks at text with class and the students find the different components within the text from the criteria list (good to colour code with highlighters). 2) The teacher then questions the class about the allocation of marks they would give the sample text. ie Would you award the maximum of 2 points for using connectives? Why? Why not? This gives students the onus to consider what they expect to see to get the full marks for each section. By going through all the categories this way, a total score is worked out and then compared to the total marks available (for the task attached it would be 17!) Whilst doing this, I also annotate on the board, what worked well (WWW) and EBI (even better if) using commentary from the students. 3) Students are then tasked to write their own text, making sure to include components from the criteria list. 4) Upon completion (depending on class, they may complete at home, unless I am not confident they will use google translate!!), pupils swap texts and then use the grid on slide 2 to peer assess each other's text. 5) The feedback is then read and students do a further RAP task to try and add some key words or sentences to their original text, in line with EBI comments given. I always thereafter add a helpful comment too. My students have found this really helpful to improve structuring their writing.

new GCSE style photo card - Where I live (home and town) - German

new GCSE style photo card - Where I live (home and town) - German

In this file there are 5 photo cards on Where I live (home and town), based on the new AQA German GCSE. These could be used as a speaking assessment or revision between pupils. Each page has a teacher and a student version of the photo card on it. The student version only shows the first three questions and the teacher one has an additional two. The first question on each photo card prompts the student to describe the photo, and there is always one question where the student has to give an opinion. Furthermore, there is also always at least one question in another tense. I am also selling photo card resources on other topics.

I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. All of my resources have been tested in class and will be updated regularly. Please rate my resources to help me build a reputation among millions of resources.
