Learning Hebrew Is Fun! - Bundle

Are you learning Hebrew? Are you looking for a fun way to learn Hebrew? I have developed a way to learn different languages based on my experience as an ESL teacher. This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in Hebrew. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into Hebrew. At the end of the session, the students can play a fun game of word bingo to show they have mastered that day's vocabulary. Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone!

Judaism Class Play or Assembly Approximate duration: 10 minutes Cast of 30 (may be easily reduced by doubling up) This play all about the Jewish faith, features: Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Moses, Pharaoh, David, King Saul, Goliath, Solomon and Judas Maccabaeus - plus children providing background information on history, festivals, customs, etc. Also available off TES or www.plays-r-ussell.com : • Hanukkah Class Play • 6 speaker script on the 5 major religions of the world, each representative interviewed by an atheist, who has equal respect for all 5, and is instrumental in relaying the central message - which is that there is plenty of room for all religions to exist and how their differences should be celebrated whilst noting just how much they actually have in common. Sample text Narrator: Thank you! And so the Israelites found themselves back in the Promised Land. (Enter David) David: Back in Canaan, from where that nomadic tribe of Hebrews had set off all those years ago! A happy return! Narrator: And you, King David, made Jerusalem your capital. (Enter King Saul) King Saul: Hey! Not so fast! I was the first king! David: But who was it that killed not just thousands, but tens of thousands of the enemy? King Saul: Show off! Just because I allowed you to take on (Sound of grunting and stamping as ‘giant' Goliath stomps on) Goliath: Me! (Bracing muscles) The mighty Goliath! Champion fighter of the Philistines! Come on, you cowardly Israelites! Who is man enough to face me? (King Saul pushing David forward) King Saul: Well, go on, then! What are you waiting for? Here! Take my helmet, suit of armour and sword! (Laughing) What are you going to fight him with otherwise? Your bare hands?

Hanukkah Class Play Sometimes referred to as Chanukah, Hannukah or Channukah Cast of 30 Duration: around 10 minutes reading time, not including songs, poetry, prayer or jokes. Two miracles - and some very keen combatants! Our narrator certainly has his work cut out for him on this one! Also available: Class Play on Judaism – available from TES and www.plays-r-ussell.com Sample Text: Narrator: (Wiping his brow) Phew! Those Maccabees! Bit of a lively lot! Let’s look at how Hanukkah is celebrated before we return to them! Child 10: But we haven’t said what Hanukkah is yet! (Narrator consults his notes) Narrator: Oh really? Well, fancy missing that bit out! Please proceed! Now let’s see. Maybe we should start with what Hanukkah means? Child 11: Hanukkah comes from the Hebrew word meaning ‘dedication’. Narrator: Ah, Hebrew you say? Child 11: That’s right. This is, after all, a Jewish festival. Child 12: That’s because it was the Jewish people who were persecuted all those years ago! Child 13: Over 2,000 years ago to be precise! Child 14: It was in the year 167 BC that a certain Syrian-Greek emperor (Enter Antiochus Epiphanes) Antiochus: (Interrupting) That would be me, Antiochus Epiphanes! Child 14: (Continuing) Invaded Judea (Enter Mattathias) Mattathias: (Furiously) And defiled my temple! Despicable what he and his forces did! Antiochus: (Defiantly) Well, you know what they say? Out with the old, in with the new!

Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone! * Please note - these resources provide visual prompts, not specific language instruction. Hebrew Bingo pack: This is a simple starter game for students. There are 114 different pictures to choose from. Select a single picture and project the image on the wall or share it with the class as a hand-out. Let's Talk in Hebrew!: This set of cards looks at 57 different settings. The teacher describes something in the top card. The students then use this to model a sentence using the bottom set of pictures. There are lots of things to see and describe in every picture. When the students have completed this task, they can repeat it by working in pairs to discuss each picture. Let's Write in Hebrew pack: There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Hebrew. The students could write about a topic in Hebrew before and then after a topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic.

These pages could also be used to write different stories, using the pictures as a stimulus. ***** Please note - these resources provide visual prompts and support to the students, not direct language instruction ************** Welcome to the 'Let’s Write in Hebrew!' pack. There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Hebrew. The students could write about a topic in Hebrew before starting a unit, and then write again about the topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic to see how much they have progressed. It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture.
