Interactive Index Cards Activity - Kings, Queens and Rulers KS2

Interactive Index Cards Activity - Kings, Queens and Rulers KS2

KS2 History - Kings, Queens and Rulers Interactive Index Cards Activity This activity supports reading for the purpose of data handling. Pupils are provided with information on a series of kings, queens and rulers throughout history, and are tasked with finding key pieces of information to create index cards. The cards can then be sorted onto a Venn diagram. This is a great resource for pupils to develop their understanding of rulers throughout history, as well as practising data handling skills and information categorisation.

Decision Tree Interactive Activity - Kings, Queens and Rulers KS2

Decision Tree Interactive Activity - Kings, Queens and Rulers KS2

KS2 History - Kings, Queens and Rulers Decision Tree Interactive Activity This activity allows pupils to sort and organise kings, queens and rulers from throughout history. Pupils firstly select which rulers they would like to organise and sort, before creating their decision tree. Students add a question (i.e. Did they come to power at a young age?) and then use the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ labels to separate out the different rules. Further questions can be used to increase the complexity of the decision tree. This is a great resource for whole-class instruction and to introduce a method of organisation that can be difficult to teach.

Elf Sorter Interactive Game - Christmas KS1/KS2

Elf Sorter Interactive Game - Christmas KS1/KS2

KS1/KS2 Christmas - Elf Sorter - Interactive Game This is a fun, seasonal interactive game perfect for pupils to play individually, in pairs, or even with the whole class. This is a sorting activity, based on sets, Venn and Carroll diagram formats. Santa’s elves are working very hard in the Christmas factory, but they are getting tired. In order to make sure the factory keeps producing presents, you need to replace sleepy elves. However, each type of elf has individual attributes so the right one must be selected. Differentiation is through the relative complexity of the type of sorting diagram chosen.

Gordon the Gamekeeper - Maths on the Moor

Gordon the Gamekeeper - Maths on the Moor

Gordon the Gamekeeper has been conducting a study on the effect of predators to the Lapwing population on two Northern moors. Lapwings are ground-nesting birds which are in serious decline. One possible factor for this decline in moorland areas is thought to be the predation of nesting birds, eggs and chicks by foxes and crows. To test this hypothesis an experiment was undertaken in Northumberland from 2002 to 2007. Two plots of moorland, each about 1,200 hectares, were selected, one in Otterburn, the other in Bellshiel. For the three years 2002-2004, the predators were removed on the Otterburn plot but left alone on Bellshiel. For the following three years, 2005-2007, the strategy was reversed: predators were removed from the Bellshiel plot but left alone at Otterburn. The data collected is real-world data from which can be explored to prove or disprove the theory that removing predators improves the breeding success of Lapwings. This resource asks the students to prove the theory using maths and logic. The answers are also provided. The questions allow for discussion around a real world example of how the countryside works, especially the interaction between species and the affect they have on each other. Furthermore it demonstrates how Gamekeepers can help to maintain the balance of nature for the benefit of all.

Interpreting Line Graphs Exercise to Show Understanding Year 5/6 (diff)

Interpreting Line Graphs Exercise to Show Understanding Year 5/6 (diff)

An exercise where children will have to study two sets of temperature data produced in Excel. They will need to interpret this data and answer questions relating to difference, negative numbers in context, more than, less than etc. A good task to demonstrate current understanding and track progress in data handling. Also a useful exercise in the run-up to the SATs as reading line-graphs and interpreting negative numbers in context is often present.

Maths in Real Life Find a Pattern IRL004

Maths in Real Life Find a Pattern IRL004

Maths in Real Life Find a Pattern IRL004 Subject: Maths Level: KS2 Series: Maths in Real Life Strategy Find a Pattern Title: Super Splash City Doc Number: IRL004 Two Page Worksheet Outcome: Students are able to identify and find a pattern by reading information from a text-based scenario looking at maths in ‘real life’ terms. This lesson can be delivered in a variety of different ways and learners can complete this individually, with peers or even collaboratively as a class. It is important to discuss patterns and how they help us in ‘real life’ terms. Once a pattern has been identified we can use this information to our advantage and can use the information in a variety of ways. Differentiated activities can include roll play and drawing out the swimmers (encourage children to use symbols) for the early stages of the pattern.
