Edexcel Superpower Relations & Cold War L15 Why did Cuba become a problem for the USA?

Edexcel Superpower Relations & Cold War L15 Why did Cuba become a problem for the USA?

Students begin by creating a caption for a cartoon of JFK. They then categorise knowledge cards before producing a SWOT analysis of Cuba for Castro in 1959 before he launches his revolution. They use their knowledge of Cuba and fresh evidence cards of the main incidents following the revolution to create a heart beat graph for President Kennedy. This is then used to respond to a series of questions. There is a homework activity on the causes of effects on the Bay of Pigs incident. The lesson concludes with students refining their cartoon captions.

Who set fire to the Rex Cinema, Abadan in 1978?

Who set fire to the Rex Cinema, Abadan in 1978?

The August 1978 fire in the Rex Cinema, Abadan is viewed by historians as one of the key incidents in changing public support from the Shah to Ayatollah Khomeini. In fact, Khomeini himself blamed SAVAK and the Shah's administration for responsibility for the fire. The affair resulted in the execution of the local police chief, Captain Taheri. The truth, however, was quite different. The whole tragic affair became a "political football" and it was the Ayatollah who scored the goal. This source-based activity is designed for students of the NSW Modern History Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum. Higher School Certificate course National Studies Option H: Iran 1953-1989

This lesson investigates the assassination of JFK and gets the students to examine the evidence to try to answer the title question.
