Clue! Systems of Equations - Graphing, Substitution, Linear Combination, Word Problems

Clue! Systems of Equations - Graphing, Substitution, Linear Combination, Word Problems

This is a 4 clue practice based off the popular board game. Students will work through 4 clues to find the suspect, an accomplice, weapon and location. Students will use knowledge of solving systems of linear functions using three methods; substitution, linear combination (or addition) and graphing. Students will also use linear combination to solve four word problems. Students are given a cipher to turn their number answers into letters. Cut out both circles and spin the numbers to match the appropriate letter. Students are also provided a score sheet, just like the game, so they can mark off their final answer. Have them turn in their answers and work to see if they've found all the right information! Answer key included!

Christmas Star! Straight Line Graphing

Christmas Star! Straight Line Graphing

Students plot eight straight lines that miraculously turn into a Christmas Star :) Using y=mx+c, and then extending with a worksheet asking questions about parallel lines, and finding new equations. Plotted lines can also be used to talk about reflected functions (about x- or y-axis) and even inverse functions (2nd 4 lines are inverses of the 1st 4), as well as restricted domains (or inequalities for younger students).

Core Skills Homework

Core Skills Homework

Homework which practices the core skills I blogged about here: http://pbrucemaths.weebly.com/blog/the-pareto-principle-in-maths. After they have had a homework on each skill, and received feedback, I now intend on setting one of these a week so they can continue to improve. Tip: when you generate the questions - save it as a PDF so you can print it of if a student loses it, or needs a new sheet. Also it means you can refer back to it in class if you peer mark it. It should fit to one A4 page (landscape) - if it doesn't check your print settings are on "narrow margins"
