ANIMALEASE An Introduction to Music Making, Notation and Rhythm (With MP3 Audio)

ANIMALEASE An Introduction to Music Making, Notation and Rhythm (With MP3 Audio)

Music making should be fun, irrespective of age and ability. The purpose of this guide is to provide the foundations of rhythm that can be used in a variety of learning environments. It will introduce a person to musical notation using animal names that will already be familiar to them. It works by chanting the animal names in time to a given pulse. Linking this then to a group of written musical notes to sing, tap, bang, shout, or whistle. This is not a step by step guide and we encourage anyone who uses this book to develop their own ideas using the framework. No two Animalease sessions will be the same and nor should they be. Children often see this method as a game (this is completely fine), and as it uses information that they already possess, the pupil has less to think about. This results in a more relaxed performance and learning environment. The focus should always be on active music making (but ensure that it is always in time). We have found over the years of using this method that the vast majority of pupils would be able to perform the following information in a short space of time. Before using this method, many pupils thought that making sense of written music would be very difficult. Pupils already familiar with the conventional counting method also found it useful and, in many cases, preferred it. We feel that the use of the animal names not only helps the pupil but also makes it accessible for someone who may not be confident to deliver music lessons, making Animalease a great tool for many primary school teachers. This resource comes with MP3 Files for demonstration purposes. Enjoy! Steve & Ben

These 8 lively, colourful pictures offer inspiration for story-writing, poetry-crafting, newspaper report inventing, and enhancement of the topics they reflect, which include: wild woods, migrating birds, ocean, sunset, jungle, wild animals (British and tropical), dragons, magic carpet rides, transport, myths and more. NB: I sketched and coloured the pictures by hand, adjusting them slightly with basic computer software, so expect spontaneity rather than professional artwork or machine neatness. I use them for all primary classes.

Unicorns Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Animals Nature Mythical Creatures

Unicorns Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Animals Nature Mythical Creatures

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘Unicorns’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Wild Woods at Twilight - Imagination Trigger

Woods are fascinating places, especially at twilight, when it starts to twitch with furtive activity and colours fade and blend mysteriously. Your children may spot an owl, a robin, a fox, a hedgehog, a rabbit and two squirrels amongst the moonlit branches of this wintry wood. The hand-drawn scene will inspire ideas and language for writing, also guiding artwork, promoting an appreciation of the natural world, celebrating leaf colour, illustrating the concepts of evening, night skies, autumn and winter, and providing discussion spurs for your class.

Red Squirrel Colouring Sheet

Red Squirrel Colouring Sheet

This hand-drawn illustration of the Red Squirrel is a great way to stir interest within children for endangered animals. Colouring in is a symbolic way to give endangered species significance and worth. Children will naturally be curious to find out more, or this sheet could form part of a project to learn why this animal is declining in the wild? The Red Squirrel was once native to the United Kingdom, however the introduction of the grey squirrel led to the decline of these colonies. Efforts are being made to re-introduce the red squirrel to habitats around the United Kingdom, but the decline in numbers is a lesson in how man can affect nature. Colouring is a perfect means of relaxation, as well as a great tool for teaching colour, texture and of course, imagination.

By spending time outdoors and connecting to nature, students are more likely to care for and conserve nature as adults.
