Grade 2.1 - Introduction and Rules

Grade 2.1 - Introduction and Rules

An introduction lesson for EAL/ESL learners going through who you are, your rules and some simple commands and terminology. The main activity is to play Simon Says which allows you to break the ice with students in your first class. There is a word unscramble for students to practice commands which could also be given as homework. I have also linked a video which goes with command words and students seem to really enjoy watching and singing it.

I can use the conjunctions ‘if’ and ‘although’, fully resourced lesson

I can use the conjunctions ‘if’ and ‘although’, fully resourced lesson

In Key Stage 2, especially from Year 4 onwards, children are expected to use a variety of conjunctions accurately. I think that ‘if’ and ‘although’ deserve as a whole session on their own because they are two of the trickier conjunctions. Children often use ‘although’ inaccurately as they do not understand it’s meaning. Included is: a warm-up activity to get children thinking right from the moment they come in; a 20 slide PowerPoint with lots of activities to engage with; a detailed lesson plan; a simple SAN/low attainers activity.

Templates for Marking Spellings by their Syllables

Templates for Marking Spellings by their Syllables

Ten spellings may consist of thirty syllables and it is much more rewarding to gain 15/30 than 1/10. Not only is this great to boost confidence but students soon appreciate the value of learning their prefixes and suffixes. Students can see the same mistakes in different words. Syllables are small manageable chunks to learn, once learned they are transferable into hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of words. These are large font to make laminated dry wipes. Alternatively I print two pages onto A4 landscape, to go into the Lexicology A5 workbooks. Fun SPAG Grammar activity KS2 Year 3&4

Fun SPAG Grammar activity KS2 Year 3&4

This takes a little prep to do but my children enjoyed the freedom of moving about to get the tokens and match them to the definition of the term. It is fully editable so please feel free to add/remove terminology or create your own version. This resource includes 2 worksheets in which the children must solve what term is what and then write an example. They must finally find the terminology token and stick in correct box of the sheet. Hope this helps! Thanks.

Noun Vs. Verb Multi-Pack

Noun Vs. Verb Multi-Pack

Noun Vs. Verb is a great new resource! Noun Vs. Verb has 9 pages of questions which explore a pupils understanding of whether a word is performing the role of a noun or a verb. Noun Vs.Verb has 3 distinct question styles. A simple labeling activity, where pupils must decide if the target word is acting as a noun or verb. In the second question style, learners must write a sentence using the target word as a noun, and then as a verb. The third activity is more in line with a classic KS2 SAT question, where pupils must fill in the blank, and identify the missing word that can be placed into both sentences. The resource pack has 9 pages and just over 100 questions for pupils to answer. Plus corresponding answers. The pages where pupils have to write a sentence, answers are not supplied. This is because there are potentially a huge amount of answers that pupils could provide. Perfect for a years worth of grammar lessons or some SATs preparation!! BABA Black Sheep

BABA Black Sheep

Ba Ba Black Sheep is the first in the series of teaching resources from my own Rhymes and Crafts collection. Popular rhymes combined with enjoyable activities will make learning an enjoyable experience for young learners. Whether you are a parent or teacher, use these lesson plans to teach new or recycled vocabulary to young learners. A fun and creative craft activity is included and can be used to decorate classroom walls. The activities come in two versions; black and white and colour. Teachers adore those cute colored graphics, but black and white ones are more useful when it comes to printing. Project the colored pages on a screen and print out the same activity in black and white. Enjoy!
