This is a four part lesson with power point and learning mat, that can be used with year 7 in a 1 hour 40 minute lesson. ( the practical can be completed in an hour with more able pupils) There is a learning mat with activities and consolidation activity. I have included the cards for the connect activity and also some Hygiene and safety photos/rules which i put next to a cooker and made a help desk for students.

This is an ideal resource to get your learners talking about their food preparation skills. This is an ideal resource pack to get your learners talking about the various food preparation skills they need to demonstrate at GCSE level. Learners are encouraged to • name the many illustrated food items • describe the methods used in the dishes shown • point out and explain the binding agents • discuss food contamination (picture with raw meat and vegetables...) • discuss what skills they will apply when preparing the dishes Cards containing the terminology for the items in the pictures can be used to differentiate for weaker students. The board games is available in A4 or A3 format and is self-explanatory. The cards can be printed for use as mini-flashcards or if printed on card and/or laminated could be used for 'snap' or 'pairs'.

This 7-page workbook is the 4th one in this series and takes GCSE students through different aspects of food preparation skills which they are required to demonstrate at GCSE, i.e. preparing, combining/ binding and shaping food. This is an ideal resource for learners to complete in class or as revision, homework or cover work. Tasks include matching pictures to skills areas, applying thinking and knowledge, explaining applications of skills, discussing and explaining ingredients, preventing food contamination and finally a research task in which learners combine their knowledge and research skills to identify ways of adapting various preparation methods to a variety of dishes before making substitutions to suit different diets and lifestyles.
