This resource is great for students of all ages, I have played it with every year group in my school and they love it. Students work in two teams and take turns selecting a member of their team to take a seat with their back to the board. A series of images are then displayed in relation to a selected topic. The individual with their back to the board must try to guess what the image is by listening to the clues their team-mates give them. 3 versions of the game included but you can create your own by replacing images.

This printable resource Musical Instruments provides a range of worksheets activities and games for teaching and reinforcing the vocabulary of 20 musical instruments through listening, speaking, reading and writing. The resource also includes learning and recording a few facts about some musical instruments. The resource has picture and word matching cards, dominoes, I have… Who has? game, cut and stick, word searches, information cards, true and false and chart completion by identifying and extracting the relevant details from the information cards. A few questions could be suggested for students to use when locating the required information cards. The following are a few examples of what could be written on a white board so that students could have support while asking for/locating cards. Who has the ________ card? Do you have the _______ card? May I have the __________ card please? Can I have the __________ card please? Are you finished with the ___________ card? Would you pass me the ________ card please. or I’m looking for the __________ . I need the ___________.

Learning English through songs

Learning English through songs

Reading literary works at intermediate levels often implies the use of abridged versions adapted to the linguistic competence of the students in question . Yet, even when these kinds of books ensure comprehension, they “kill” the style of the original work, as well as the richness and versatility of the language. Abridged versions present at least two main drawbacks: they are not authentic material, and since they are texts used only as a means to display language structure, there is little, or no engagement at the discourse level, on the part of the student. Song lyrics represent authentic material; they do not need to be abridged because they can be selected according to the students’ linguistic level of competence. They resemble poetry and lend themselves to be used to the teaching of literary theory. Besides, listening to songs facilitate language acquisition and help students develop phonological awareness “Music has the ability to facilitate language acquisition, reading readiness, and general intellectual development....... to enhance creativity and to promote social development, personality adjustment, and self-worth.” (Weinberger, N.1998 P 56, 36-40)
