Titration calculations

Titration calculations

A detailed lesson which uses a step by step guide to take students through titration calculations. The lesson begins by looking at jey terminology such as the “rough” and “titre”, which are discussed and explained so that there isnt any confusion. Time is taken to go over key steps in the method, such as using the molar ratio from the equation, so that students are prepared for these if they encounter in an assessment. This lesson has been designed primarily for GCSE students (14 - 16 year olds in the UK) but is suitable for older students covering this at A-level

Chemical Changes Revision

Chemical Changes Revision

I found a similar activity on TES several years ago and adapted it for a new topic. It’s been used yearly with year 8 for a revision lesson after the chemical changes topic. Can be adapted for higher/lower ability learners. The points system works really well with KS3 students, they like the competitive element! I print the slide off and put under a visualiser to go through answers with students while they use green pen- I’ve always had good feedback from this activity (3 obs and counting!)

General equations for metal reactions and naming salts

General equations for metal reactions and naming salts

This is for AQA GCSE Trilogy topic C5. I have made a general equations sheet for my lower ability class to help them learn them, and to help them name the salts produced. It can be easily adapted. Students carried out all the experiments, and I am using this as the consolidation lesson/s to make sure they understand what is formed.

Reactivity of Metals (full lesson inc Practical) - KS3 Chemistry

Reactivity of Metals (full lesson inc Practical) - KS3 Chemistry

This is a very simple KS3 Chemistry lesson to introduce the concept of reactivity and the reactivity series of metals. Resource includes a very self explanatory powerpoint (including a technician list for ordering practical equipment), an introduction to the reactivity series plus a straight forward practical for students to deduce the order of reactivity of 4 metals to help fill in the gaps of the reactivity series they have been given. I have produced a practical hand out with a simple equipment list and method plus a pre-drawn table to help students get started straight away or feel free to get them designing their own if you wish. Finally students will need to write brief conclusions regarding their results and then move on to some higher order prediction making for other metals based on their results. Download it, open it and it’s ready to go! (The only prep you’ll need to do is ordering your practical kit!)
