Leaf Colour Similes in a Picture - Yrs2-3

Leaf Colour Similes in a Picture - Yrs2-3

Autumn leaves can be as red as juicy cherries or poisonous berries, but your children might think up completely different similes to write and colour round on the leaf. There are other colours to find comparisons for, too, and children will enjoy turning the sheet around to write along the differently angled leaves. There’s a line down the middle for description as well, and some creepy-crawlies to bring the picture alive. Older children can use the sheet as a starting point for extended similes and independent description or free-style verse.

8 Inspirational Colour Sketches

8 Inspirational Colour Sketches

These 8 lively, colourful pictures offer inspiration for story-writing, poetry-crafting, newspaper report inventing, and enhancement of the topics they reflect, which include: wild woods, migrating birds, ocean, sunset, jungle, wild animals (British and tropical), dragons, magic carpet rides, transport, myths and more. NB: I sketched and coloured the pictures by hand, adjusting them slightly with basic computer software, so expect spontaneity rather than professional artwork or machine neatness. I use them for all primary classes.

Autumn leaves can be - poem on a leaf sheet + guide

Autumn leaves can be - poem on a leaf sheet + guide

Let creative writing flow like autumn leaves on this curvy leaf picture, with the informal prompts to unlock their imaginations and most expressive vocabulary. The guidance sheet supplies ideas to elicit for each phrase starter, with a recommended warm-up plan below. I use this sheet with Yr 2 upwards, for complete poems and (for older) poetry launch pads, letting children spread their ideas freely over and around the picture, bypassing any starter-phrases they’re less keen on and developing those that catch their imagination. This approach stimulates creativity, builds confidence and nurtures a love of writing, I find. They can then colour around the words. PLEASE NOTE: I drew the sheet by hand and hand-wrote the wavy starter lines, so please don’t expect computer tidiness. The lines are grainy in places, but clear nevertheless. In my experience, children love this sheet.

Season TEACCH Bundle - Independent Autism and SEND Activities

Save 25% with this Seasonal Bundle. Activities and tasks for your pupils with Autism! Includes early reading, writing and maths activities to help achieve those early targets and build on working independently! These are the individual resources included: Spring TEACCH Tasks £3 Summer TEACCH Tasks £3 Autumn TEACCH Tasks £3 Winter TEACCH Tasks £3 When using TEACCH tasks the task that is to be completed should be placed on the left hand side of the desk/workstation. The pupil then completes this task and places it on the right when completed. Having a clear visual for the pupil to identify where the finished tasks go is preferable. This clear structure allows the pupils to focus on the task they are completing and not be distracted by the work process. It is important to remember that when completing these tasks it is also about creating and building independence as well as success at the task, this is why the consistent work approach (working from left to right is so important) When using these tasks I would recommend using them for at least 4-6 weeks. For some children it may take up to a term for them to master the skill and be able to complete this independently.
