Statistics: (S2) Normal distribution 4 - Approximation for Binomial Distribution (+ worksheet)

Statistics: (S2) Normal distribution 4 - Approximation for Binomial Distribution (+ worksheet)

This is the fourth of a series of lessons on the normal distribution. It is applicable for S2 in the UK, but international A-Level has this as a part of the S1 specification. 26 slides. This lesson needs to proceed lessons on the binomial and normal distributions, both available as a lesson in my shop. Specifically, this lesson is for teaching when to use the normal distribution as an approximation for a binomial distribution. It looks at why we use and looks in a lot of detail at common mistakes pupil’s make in order for pupil’s to avoid doing it and I have had excellent results on this topic using this resource. I have used the PowerPoint slides to structure the lesson and includes plenty of examples, superb teaching slides with lots of custom animation, keywords, learning objectives, differentiated questions and basic plenary. NOTE: please browse my shop for more excellent free and premium resources. As always please rate and feedback on any purchases or downloads. Thank you for your support.

Poisson Distribution and Estimation using t-distribution

Poisson Distribution and Estimation using t-distribution

A presentation that explains to the students what the Poisson distribution is and how to solve a range of problems using the Poisson distribution. This includes the graphs of Poisson distributions as well as the mean, variance and standard deviation. A presentation that introduces the t-distribution and how it is used for samples below a size of 30. It shows the students how to use the standard tables to find confidence intervals using t-distribution. SMART Notebook Express presentations can be used for free by using SMART online or by downloading SMART software, also free, I use it because it allows a more interactive presentation than a powerpoint. Just search 'SMART Notebook Express' and try it with my free SMART resource.

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons This is a set of lessons for S1 Statistics 1 A level Mathematics. The resources includes Powerpoints. Powerpoint include: Learning objectives Questions on the topic Important information written in red boxes to scaffold learning. Topics: Introduction Averages Measures of Spread Correlation Regression Probability Binomial Normal Theory Confidence Interval Revision Poisson I hope you enjoy these lessons, they can be used in the following ways: To deliver a course with reduced planning but not reducing quality of the lesson. As a basis for an observation lesson to save time preparing resources. To give to students for out of lesson learning. To support teachers who are new to this topic, again to reduce planning time. As a bases for your own lessons where you can include exam questions to each presentation. As an activity where the questions can be printed and cut out.

Central Limit Theorem and Confidence Intervals

Central Limit Theorem and Confidence Intervals

Presentation and activity showing learners how the CLT works and how it can be used to produce confidence intervals. The initial activity demonstrates how plotting the students samples produces a normal distribution. Instructions, 1. Students collect samples of a given size 2. Teacher uses powerpoint to plot students results and discusses results 3. Repeat with bigger sample to show how the results cluster round the mean. SMART Notebook Express presentations can be used for free by using SMART online or by downloading SMART software, also free, I use it because it allows a more interactive presentation than a powerpoint. Just search 'SMART Notebook Express' and try it with my free SMART resource.

A2 Full Teaching Notes for Sampling and Estimation

***IF YOU LIKE THIS PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER UNITS FOR A2 MATHS. BUY EACH UNIT SEPARATELY OR GET THE WHOLE PACK FOR £10!*** These are my teaching notes for the CIE A2 Statistics Sampling and Estimation Unit. They include: - Explanation of CLT (includes link to excellent video) - Calculating unbiased estimates of the mean and variance - Calculating probabilities of the sample mean - Confidence intervals for normal distributions, large samples and proportions I've also included an assignment with answers. Notes include examples and explanations - essentially everything you would hope your students to copy down during the unit. The textbook exercise references are for the Nelson Mathematics Probability and Statistics Text (978-1-4085-1563-1). Which I highly recommend as an excellent text and which as been endorsed by Cambridge. Great for beginning teachers and also useful for students who are absent as you can print out a copy for their notes
