Add 2 or more fractions - Year 4 Mastery

Worksheet to support Block 3 (Year 4 Spring term) of the White Rose Small Steps Progression. The children are given some pictorial representations of fractions to add at first. They then progress to adding several fractions with the same denominator. More able children could be challenged to express the answers as improper fractions and mixed numbers. There is a further open-ended, reasoning challenge to extend able pupils.

show a quarter half and three quarters for different units of measurements

show a quarter half and three quarters for different units of measurements

This in an intervention activity to revisit quarters, halves and three quarters as 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75. It is colour coded and laid out with place value tables for support. I have made this for pupils to see the pattern of quarters halves and three quarters across the different units of measurements that can be split into tenths, hundredths or thousandths. there is an extension activity for pupils to show understanding that 0.75 is three quarters but so is 7.5 , 75 or 750 depending on the unit of measurement and place value (for example). I hope you will find this resource useful.

Understanding Earth's Water Supply

Understanding Earth's Water Supply

Through a classroom demonstration, students will calculate the percentage of fresh water available for human use and explain why water is a limited resource. Students will choose appropriate units of measurement for  volume. With guidance, students will pose questions to clarify practical problems or inform a scientific investigation, and predict what the findings of an investigation might be. Students connect volume and capacity and their units of measurement. Students will be able to physically represent percentages using 100 pieces of paper and articulate how smaller volumes of water represent the Earth’s total water content.
