The Number Line (Part 1): Opposites Mini Module

The Number Line (Part 1): Opposites Mini Module

A Kaffenate Mini Module is a one page (front and back) sheet that covers a single topic. Each KMM has: –An instructional section: The instructional sections at the top of each page are either very thorough examples, step-by-step instructions, or both. –Practice problems: Problems start out easy and get progressively more difficult throughout the module. Each problem has enough space for the student to work it out right there. –Challenge or puzzle: The kids love the challenges or puzzles that are part of each module. These acts as both incentives and, sometimes, self-checking tools. –Answer Keys! Busy teachers don’t have time to make their own answer keys. I’ve done that for you. Kaffenate Mini Modules can be used in SO MANY WAYS! –Topic Introduction –Daily Warm Up –Homework –Pop Quiz –Substitute Plans –Extension Work –Catch-up Work –Topic Review –OR whatever else YOU can think of! (In fact, tell me how you use them!) 10% of all Proceeds for Kaffenate Math go to this AWESOME horse rescue: https://www.facebook.com/TAPSfordrafts/

The Number Line (Part 1): Opposites (Video Comprehension Worksheet)

While I’d like to believe that students LIVE to watch MATH videos… I know that’s not always the case. Sigh. This worksheet will help keep the students on track, either at home or in class. Or perhaps you could use this as a pop quiz! Mental/Speed Arithmetic Worksheets

Mental/Speed Arithmetic Worksheets

I created these randomly generating speed/mental maths worksheets in Excel for my students to practise their skills in: All values are 0-12 times table values. Hit F9 (Windows) or Fn F9 (Mac) to randomly generate a new sheet. Addition Subtraction Multiplication Division Mixed 1-Step Algebra Each worksheet generates correct solutions to match. Each worksheet is separated into: Beginner Intermediate Advanced Personally, I print off and laminate a randomly generated class set and see how many students can do in the first 5 minutes of the lesson to warm up. I keep records of their best and challenge them to beat their personal bests.

Working With Numbers

Working With Numbers

I was asked to help some students (Years 9 and 10) who massively lacked confidence with number, so I came up with this set of questions working through general calculations, calculations with brackets, powers, fractions, percentages and decimals. In each case the student must balance both sides of the equation; it is designed to encourage discussion and thinking rather than just running through a set of similar questions. I hope you find it useful.

Maths Game

Maths Game

Maths Game Penalty Shoot Out Maths Game This is great for end of term fun! All answers are included. There are 3 matches and a total of 60 questions. The questions are mental maths questions such as:- • What is 1,000 minus 2? • What is 7 squared? • What is 2.3 add 1.4? This resource is suitable for Key Stage 2 and 3 (years 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9). The resource can be printed in black and white or colour. The document is 6 pages in total. Teacher’s Instructions - Match Rules • Divide the players into 2 teams – e.g. blue and red (or choose team names). • Each team nominates one person to take the 1st penalty. The nominated students both stand up. The teacher asks the blue team question 1 to the blue team player and awards a penalty if the student answers correctly. The red team penalty taker is then asked the matching red question 1 and awarded a penalty if the answer is correct. • Another person from each team is then chosen to take the 2nd penalty. • Play continues for 10 rounds and then the number of goals is added up for each team. • If there is a draw, play goes to extra time. Each team chooses their best player to take the final penalty. Only one question is asked and the 1st player to answer correctly wins the whole match for the team. • At the end of the match, players in the winning team pick a “man of the match” - the student who they think played the best. • This game can also be played by groups of students by allowing one student to be the “teacher”. • It might be fun if the teacher uses their whistle and acts as the referee. • Teachers may also want to allow a victory dance/celebration on scoring a penalty! How To Develop Mathematical Thinking Part 1

How To Develop Mathematical Thinking Part 1

This resource uses the Next Door Neighbour Numbers investigation to give practical advice and support to teachers interested in actively developing effective mathematical thinking and reasoning in their classroom. It provides key questions to ask, teaching points to establish and what to look for as evidence of mathematical understanding. The resource takes each of the three main strands of mathematical thinking - application, communication and reasoning, logic and proof and gives clear examples to show how these skills can be developed and taught through the vehicle of this activity. The resource could be used as a training resource for curriculum leaders looking to support teachers in raising the profile of mathematical thinking within the school or to support individual teachers interested in developing their own teaching skills in the classroom. The questions could also be used to support additional adults working with individuals and groups of children.

There are 5 mats in this pack. These are aimed at children meeting age related expectations. Answers are also included. In this version, the answer sheet is immediately after the question sheet. Maths-Algebra-Code breaking - Team work- Activity- KS3 or KS4 - Changing the subject-Coefficients

Maths-Algebra-Code breaking - Team work- Activity- KS3 or KS4 - Changing the subject-Coefficients

A brilliant resource that incorporates: Algebra, rearranging equations, changing the subject in equations, applying algebra to a problem, team work. I made this resource and got offered a job when I did a job interview. They said it was the best planned and most engaging lesson they had ever seen. Keep it up your sleeve for an observation from your Head of Department or even better OFSTED. Mission cards should be printed backed and laminated and the resource can be re-used over and over. The task involves simple algebra, changing the subject, positive and negative numbers.

I have created this set of basic skills maths worksheets to help do this; this set covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, mathematical language and some problem solving. Maybe just get your child to complete one worksheet per day, and by the end of the week hopefully, they can get 100% The worksheets can be printed out, or used on an iPad with an app such as Notes Writer or Bamboo Paper; I prefer to use Notes Plus and an Apple Pencil. KS3 Mathematics Starter Bundle

KS3 Mathematics Starter Bundle

This is a collection of 8 different resources and approximately 60 different Excel tabs. I use these as a premise for my starters with a mix of abilities from year 7-9. Each worksheet is differentiated, so you can give students varying sheets, or request they work from varying sections of the interactive whiteboard, whilst still providing them with the same answers. They foster a calm start to the lesson, and students always seem excited to learn when the lesson is started in this manner. The addition pyramids contain a self-check tool, so children can usefully self mark. The multiplication grid generator, includes an exciting ‘challenge’ sheet in which students have to work backwards to work out the row and column headers (using similiar skills to Sudoku). In addition to this the Cross number, and the times table grid excitingly contain a magic number extension. This involves students having to collate their answers, i.e. summing certain values, to obtain a magic numbers and perhaps win a small prize (sticker, or sweet, or just simple praise). Please review if you found helfpul.
