It is designed to be taught in the 6th half term of Year 10 (after teaching Emancipation of Expressionism, Artificial Things, Shadows A Linha Curva and Infra) following the advice from AQA. Although the main theme of this delivery PowerPoint is Within Her Eyes, this SOW also includes teaching the Shift set phrase. Please note that the anthology megamix that is mentioned in the SOW refers to an audio file (included) that is a mix of the music used in all 6 anthology pieces. In my previous SOW (Infra) pupils created a megamix dance that included key motifs from the anthology to help pupils remember them. In this SOW pupils create the last section (Within Her Eyes) – If you have not purchased my KS4 Infra SOW, you can simply use the Within Her Eyes section of the megamix to choreograph a short within Her Eyes piece in isolation from the megamix dance itself. Enjoy!

Differentiation: You can pre pick the questions prior to the lesson based on your pupil’s strengths and areas of weakness to challenge your pupils appropriately. Print out the 2nd slide for them with their differentiated question on. Whole class activity: As a class decide on a question to tackle and discuss the question together before allowing the pupils to have a go at writing their answers. KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreographic Devices and Intent within the Anthology

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreographic devices and choreographic intent within the anthology, in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint sit pupils in their groups and give them the QR code for their anthology set work for them to watch (on their phones or on iPads) and write notes about the choreographic devices that they see. Discuss with each group how the choreographic devices relates to the choreographic intent of the piece. After the discussion, give each group their exam question handout and allow pupils to answer the 2 questions (using their notes to help them).

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreography in preparation for the written exam. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint give each group one of the texts as a stimulus. As a group, pupils can discuss how the text can be used to create choreography in relation to each of the questions on the PowerPoint (I allowed around 3 min per slide). Encourage pupils to write notes on the sheet with the text on as these can be used as posters in the classroom and/or be photocopied and given to all students for further revision. After pupils have completed notes for each of the questions, give pupils a copy of the questions as a mock test and allow pupils 20 min to complete the test using their text as their stimulus. Within this resource I have included the notes that my pupils made as an example.

Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). Each group should be given a large piece of paper with one of the 6 dance anthology pieces written in the middle, then use the PowerPoint. I spent approximately 5 min per slide and got the pupils to rotate around the room rather than the paper. You will need the six anthology fact files found on the AQA GCSE Dance website for the latter part of the lesson. Once the lesson is complete you will have revision display posters created by the dance pupils themselves.

KS3 Dance ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW delivery PowerPoint

KS3 Dance ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW delivery PowerPoint

This ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW and delivery PowerPoint is for teachers teaching dance at KS3. In the school where I teach, every year we have a Year 9 musical (this year was Hairspray) and all the Year 8 pupils watch during a matinee performance. This SOW has been created for my Year 8 pupils after they have watched our Year 9 performance of Hairspray. The delivery PowerPoint includes questions which refer to the performance that they have watched and the whole point of the SOW is for them to learn the finale dance ‘You can’t Stop the Beat’. You may be thinking, ‘What am I going to do with this resource?’. Well, you’re going to need to adapt it to suit you yes but it will work in a variety of ways. First of all, it can be used as a tutorial of how to turn a series of rehearsals into a series of lessons (learning other key dance skills and terminology in the process). You could use It as a guide to create your own SOW for whatever musical your school has just put on or simply show a YouTube clip of a live performance of ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’. We haven’t chosen next years musical yet but I will be using this SOL and will adapt it to fit. The delivery PowerPoint includes starters in the form of ‘bell activities’/‘talking points’ for each lesson, homework and assessment activities at week 3 and week 6 to record progress.

KS3 Dance Pirates Scheme of Work

KS3 Dance Pirates Scheme of Work

This is a dance scheme of work using the theme of Pirates. It uses the themes of “water”, explores the shape of the ship, the characters on board, pirate activities, sword fighting and performance skills. There are detailed lesson plans with worksheets for reflective practice. There are suggestions for music and diagrams to help with staging whole class sections. When I did this, we were 1:1 Chromebooks, so students created an online blog to write a diary of their creative progress, but with could be done with a physical booklet instead. This scheme of work could possibly be used for Years 5, 6, 7 and 8, depending upon the student maturity, or where they are in the year.
