Urban sustainability: Ideas from the Solar Decathlon 2017

Urban sustainability: Ideas from the Solar Decathlon 2017

I had the opportunity to visit the Solar Decathlon in Denver 2017. I put together this resource to match the part of most GCSE Geography syllabuses that focus on urban growth and sustainability. Some slides are region-based (east of England) and for the AQA syllabus, but the main learning objectives are very relevant for a range of scales and locations. This powerpoint can be used front-facing; as an independent learning resource or flipped homework task. I strongly recommend you search for and browse the official website, it is very informative!

The Great Fire of London Resource Pack KS1

The Great Fire of London Resource Pack KS1

This pack contains a fantastic BBC video - 16 mins or so- where a Magic Grandad takes his Grandchildren back in time to 1666 and witness the Great Fire- meeting Samuel Pepys and learning about the events of those 4 days. PPT. Poem by Paul Perro- written shortly after the fire. To learn as part of English cross curricular. There is also a Minecraft video clip that appeals to KS1 which also guides you through the streets of London -giving a feel for buildings back then. Tudor House resource shows the children the differences between houses and teaches about how the style contributed to the fire spreading. This is an Art activity where they draw the houses with charcoal/cut and stick. Lots of historical objectives met by sequencing events, comparing now and then- role play masks, small world background and word mats etc also included. Hope this is useful to you :)
