#### Interactive Sequences Lesson Judged Outstanding Includes X Factor Activity

A colourful introduction to sequences, activities involve mini whiteboards and an X Factor themed activity. Judged outstanding from a formal observation. Any feedback welcome!

#### Quadratic Sequences by pattern spotting

Using the powerpoint to teach my top set in year 8 quadratic sequence formula. I have used it with middle ability KS4 group as well. It builds nicely onto the work I have been doing on linear sequences. Students are told by the teacher the second difference being a constant means that the sequence is quadratic. They are then told to trust the teacher that having this number gives the first part of the sequence of an^2 + bn +c. I…e. the value of a. Using this they build a table up to find the missing values and using knowledge on linear sequences find the remainder of the sequence. They are then given the accompanying worksheet to practice this skill. Or you could use a similar exercise in a textbook.

#### Maths Revision Sat KS2 Year6

This Maths revision resource is designed to prepare children in the run up to the National Curriculum SATs tests before school assessments. The packs includes 5 days worth of 25 questions that target key areas of the Mathematics curriculum. Each day is designed to last ten minutes and comprises both arithmetic and reasoning problems. Equally, it would be useful for booster sessions when there is limited time in the run up to the national tests.

#### Problem Solving - ICT

Scenario based on being stranded on a desert island. Scenario ‘email’ introduced the task to the children. Differentiated activities then introduced which all lead to solving different problems. Whole class work together on differentiated activities, before coming together to share the results of their findings.

#### Relationships (between equations, graphs, sequences etc.)

This is a great, open ended, rich maths task which encourages students to understand connections - relationships - between many areas of maths. Here is… a number machine, algebra, graph, sentence, sequence and input/output table for students to investigate… and hopefully come to the conclusion that all represent the same relationship in different ways. I’ve tried this a few times with Yr7, 8, 9 students and, although they start off slow and I keep my own input to a minimum, they usually get there and appreciate it all the more after a while. If the class is really struggling then you could use the suggestions for ways to investigate which are on slide 4. To extend this rich, open task students could create their own set of cards. The file ‘Relationships’ is the main activity and the ‘LessonPlan’ goes with this. I suggest print out the main page for pairs of students as well as projecting from of class. A subsequent activity / lesson could be students to complete the number machine, table, sentence and graph from the algebra. The file ‘Relationships2’ are the resources that you’ll need for this with the file ‘LessonPlan2’ as the lesson plan. Tried and tested, and corrected(!), in the classroom many times. This download includes a pdf files as well as the original powerpoint and word files for easy editing.
