Bonds to 10 bridge
This sheet shows a billy goat trying to cross a river but the bridge is missing. Children measure the length using cubes (gap is exaclty 10 unifix cubes). I gave my Y1 children various lengths of card which we called bridge pieces to use to fill the gap. Children then investigate different ways to make the bridge. For example a piece 7 cubes long + a piece 3 cubes long makes up the 10 cube gap. A good way of combining the skills of measuring with number bonds work. More able children had the sheet enlarged to A3 so their gap was larger.
