Cloze activities are excellent of working with vocabulary terms in context. Key terms are omitted from a meaning filled paragraph and student add the missing terms. They are also useful for scaffolding readers, introducing or reviewing concepts and building stamina for reading informational text. I have often used these as a requirement for before being allowed to retake an assessment.
