Experiments in Crime Questions and Answers

Experiments in Crime Questions and Answers

Crime is a multi-billion-dollar business. Crime is also deeply embedded in our social, economic, political, religious and material worlds. But, surely it is wrong that, day after day, year after year, thousands of decisions are taken, millions of lives are disturbed and billions of dollars are being spent without robust evidence as to what is the best course of action for those involved in, affected by, or afflicted through crime. Experiments seek to offer hope, they seek to offer help and they seek to assist in making this world, our world, your world, a better place. Fully loaded with questions and examples from across the world, with 27 sections, 48 tables and diagrams, 203 references and 246 pages, this book aims to:  share rich contemporary examples of experiments in crime that you can read, discuss, learn from, relate to and find out more about  give you insight and inspiration with respect to experiments in crime  introduce the language, terms, tips and traps of experiments in crime  empower you to become more confident, capable and curious about experiments in crime  inspire you to ask questions of experiments in crime and of the evidence they produce  encourage you to look at experimental and non experimental evidence  encourage you to look at real life data and how you can use it to help support and challenge experiments in crime  make you do something: think, talk, listen then act. The 27 sections cover the following areas: In the beginning On everyday life On the RCT family On the advantages and limitations of evidence from an experiment Barriers to doing an experiment in crime Before you get involved in an experiment On consent, concealment and blinding On entry and exclusion On recruitment On random On sampling On the control group On the baseline On outcomes and endpoints On bias On piloting Bullet proof, gold standard and assumption free? On hierarchies of the evidence and other methods On the cycle of evidence and publication On the fate of ideas On the business of reviews On data, data presentation, dirty data and data monitoring On statistics On interim analysis On the number needed to treat, intention to treat and protocol analysis On checklists and integrity of an experiment On ethics

Pivot Tables Shortcut keys Mix n Match Activity

Pivot Tables Shortcut keys Mix n Match Activity

This resource contains a worksheet that can be printed out. It has a list of short cut keys pertaining to pivot tables and data management in Excel. The activity is a mix and match. Students are required to match the shortcut with the Description. The answer page is included as well as a blank sheet for further shortcut keys to be added. I generally use this at the beginning of a lesson, once I’ve covered off a bit of general knowledge around pivot tables. I then encourage students to put these short cuts into practice during the session. Included is a word document and a pdf file, so further editing is permitted. This activity can be carried out individually, in pairs, or groups to add a competitive edge.

Late Slips

I created these late slips that can be issued to the learners who decide to arrive late to class, saves on the disruption it causes to you and the rest of the class. I used to collect in the slips at the end of the lesson or when the class was completing activities. Embeds both English and Maths skills, hopefully having to fill one of these in everytime will encourage them to be on time to class!

2.2 Demonstrate awareness of different time zones and climates © Influence of climate on tourism (relief, temperature, sunshine, precipitation, humidity, wind, hazards) This resource includes lesson objectives (linked to Cambridge curriculum, but could be tweaked for others), starter, main activity, plenary and exam practice. For the main activity, I would recommend printing out A4 maps in black and white for students to label the various impacts of climate change globally. I’ve found this particularly useful for lower ability students in grasping concepts and remembering various examples when completing exam practice.

All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

This ‘Pop Art Box About Me’ art and getting to know you resource, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both girls and boys. It is a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to create a unique ‘All About Me Box’, following the template prompts using Pop Art style doodles and words. Box prompts include: Age, name, grade, self portrait, favorite colors, favorite fruit, my top goal, I love… Students can then fill their boxes with a selection of question cards and work in pairs or small groups to explore their learning goals, aspirations, likes and dislikes. 36 question cards are included, along with blanks for students to have some fun and invent their own questions and games, for example, ‘Would you rather…’ Another task is to make a ‘card to myself’ with a message or goal, or a kind note for a friend. For example, students can give these to their teacher to open at the end of the year. The coloured, finished example included features a girl’s face. However the actual face template has a ‘generic bald head’ so both boys and girls can create a self portrait from this outline. Classroom Decor includes Pop Art inspired garlands and posters to colour and display. There are doodle pages to keep early finishers occupied. UK/Aus/Can spelling options of favourite and colour are included in the templates. Boxes measure 2.6 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches / 6.6 x 6.6 x 6.6cm when finished. The entire box template is designed to fit one sheet of US Letter or A4 sized paper. A larger box template is also included if you have access to an 11x14 or A3 printer. The finished boxes make a fabulous display, on the bulletin board, pegged up on a line as a garland or suspended from the ceiling with clear thread. Photographs of completed examples are included in the pack.

Individual Lesson Objective booklet

Individual Lesson Objective booklet

This is a professional, well put together booklet for learners to fill out during a lesson. Each session learners are to give themselves an objective and state what they plan to achieve. The booklet has an example, some ideas of what they could write and words they could use. This document gives learners a target as well as stretch and challenge tasks. This booklet will also show progression over 1 to 36 weeks. It is to the point and easy to fill in. I use this for a particular group of Carpentry learners that do not have a training booklet or any other proof of progression. Ideal for OFSTED and observations.
