First Day of School - 3 Leg Table Team Building Activity (Back to School)

First Day of School - 3 Leg Table Team Building Activity (Back to School)

This project is a great way to get students moving, interacting and working as a team the first day of school. It also is an exceptionally memorable activity that students remember and talk about throughout the year. Set the tone of your classroom as a student led, cooperative and supportive classroom as students work together to build a 3 leg table that will support a stack of books using limited supplies. You can use this as a first day of school activity or as a one-day activity at any time during the year. This lesson was created for 7th and 8th grade, but could also be used successfully in upper elementary grades. Files included: • Teacher Instructions • 3 Leg Table Building Activity Instructions (printable for teams and display sized, suitable for a projector or SmartBoard) • Team Drawing Sheet

Assertiveness - Workbook and Powerpoint Presentation

Assertiveness - Workbook and Powerpoint Presentation

This 10 page resource looks at different forms of communication and their application in the workforce. It is an interactive lesson that looks at passive, aggressive, assertive and indirect behaviours. There is opportunity for pair work and group work activities and discussion that explores the best way to handle situations. The PowerPoint presentation is an interactive lesson that covers Passive, Aggressive and Assertive behaviour types. It covers self confidence, definitions and the use of "I" statements for effective communication. The video gives some good examples and phrases that can be used to practice assertiveness. I have used this with small groups of learners and it has been very well received. The session concludes with students carrying out roleplay activities.

Telephone Etiquette Roleplay Cards and message pad template

Telephone Etiquette Roleplay Cards and message pad template

This resource contains various phone call situations that occur at work. It also contains a set of blank cards for learners to make up their own scenarios as well as message pad templates. It is important that the person answering the call uses correct telephone etiquette and takes down the message accurately. They can be used as part of or a whole lesson on telephone etiquette, which is an important customer service skill. Instructions: 1. Use the Word document to make any changes to the scenarios. Go straight to 2 if no changes are required. 2. Print out as many copies of page 3 as you need. (Will depend on number of pairs). 3. Cut out with scissors or guillotine 4. Page 5 contains phone message pads. Use them to take messages. To do the activity, all you need is two students, one with paper and pen for taking a message. Have your students sit back to back so they cannot use non-verbal cues to understand what their partner is saying. That way the role-play will be more like a real telephone conversation.

Teamwork - Collaborate within a team or group to meet an objective

Teamwork - Collaborate within a team or group to meet an objective

This is an 18 slide powerpoint presentation that covers teamwork, goals and objectives. It covers Bruce Tuckman's model of Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. Dr Bruce Tuckman published the Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing model in 1965 then added the fifth stage, Adjourning, in the 1970's. The model outlines how a team develops and changes as it matures and its members gain more knowledge and understanding. This is an excellent resource to use when any teamwork is required so that members have a full awareness of the processes that occur during different phases of a project.
