Understanding Food Chains

Understanding Food Chains

Students use examples from the ocean to draw food chains showing the relationships between organisms. They then apply their learning to finding food chains around them. They use their food chains to suggest the outcomes when one of the animals is removed from the chain. They will group living things on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things. Students will represent and communicate ideas and findings in a variety of ways such as diagrams, physical representations and simple reports. They will understand that living things, including plants and animals, depend on each other and the environment to survive. Students will be able to research the diets of a range of living things, create a simple food chain based on their research and communicate their finding to the peers.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! A Class Assembly about Plastic Pollution in the Sea.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! A Class Assembly about Plastic Pollution in the Sea.

You’ve probably heard about, or seen, Sky Ocean Rescue and/or Blue Planet II. This is an assembly I wrote for my year 4 class production that got good reviews from the critics (parents, teachers and children!) who watched it. It could be adapted in any way you want, including for any year group in Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3. The pack contains the following: a Microsoft Word script (with space on the left to write children’s names) and a PDF version; a PowerPoint which has all the pictures and videos in the correct order; and the original video files themselves (because you’ll need them to link to the PowerPoint if you want it to play automatically; I couldn’t find a way to do it because I converted it from a Google Slides document). Reduce, reuse, recycle!
