OCR MEI Statistics 2 : Poisson Distribution 2

OCR MEI Statistics 2 : Poisson Distribution 2

This is a presentation that covers: combining Poisson distributions and using the Poisson as an approximation to the Binomial. The worksheet is a set of past paper questions that cover finding basic Poisson probabilities, using tables to find Poisson probabilities, and using the Poisson approximation.

OCR MEI Statistics 2 : Poisson Distribution

OCR MEI Statistics 2 : Poisson Distribution

This is a presentation that recaps using the Binomial distribution before introducing the Poisson. The worksheet is a set of four past paper questions (with answers) that are accessible at this stage.

S2 Statistics Mathematics A Level (Edexcel AQA OCR) Posters - Poisson Distribution

S2 Statistics Mathematics A Level (Edexcel AQA OCR) Posters - Poisson Distribution

A large proportion of students are visual learners, this means bright colours, bold diagrams, and image repetition will help when studying. Enclosed are a range of posters for A Level Statistics on any exam board. The posters are A4 documents, split into 4 boxes with bold colourful information in each. They are well used scattered around a room or the house, so constant viewing of the posters will help you remember the information that in on them. This is a technique that I have passed on to help many students through GCSE and A level. The topics included are: Poisson Distribution

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons

Mathematics Statistics 1 Lessons This is a set of lessons for S1 Statistics 1 A level Mathematics. The resources includes Powerpoints. Powerpoint include: Learning objectives Questions on the topic Important information written in red boxes to scaffold learning. Topics: Introduction Averages Measures of Spread Correlation Regression Probability Binomial Normal Theory Confidence Interval Revision Poisson I hope you enjoy these lessons, they can be used in the following ways: To deliver a course with reduced planning but not reducing quality of the lesson. As a basis for an observation lesson to save time preparing resources. To give to students for out of lesson learning. To support teachers who are new to this topic, again to reduce planning time. As a bases for your own lessons where you can include exam questions to each presentation. As an activity where the questions can be printed and cut out.

Statistics 2 - 15 min exam question challenges

Statistics 2 - 15 min exam question challenges

A collection of exam question challenges for the Edexcel Statistics 2 specification. Each worksheet consists of 2 or 3 sets of questions arranged in difficulty order. Each set of questions should take between 15-20 minutes to complete. How they are used can be up to the teacher, I have used these as either starter or plenary activities during review lessons where students are given a choice of which set of questions to complete in the 15 minute time limit. Then in pairs or groups work through any problems they may have encountered.

Binomial and Poisson Topic Mat

Binomial and Poisson Topic Mat

A mat to summarise key concepts from the S2 topics Binomial/Poisson Distributions (Edexcel). I also include a suggestion for how the mat could be filled out. I usually use it as a plenary – ask the pupils for the key ideas from the lesson and collectively fill in sections over a sequence of lessons. At the end of a topic they have a topic mat from which to revise from. I also photocopy them on different coloured paper so they act as dividers in students’ folders. I am creating these resources as part of an action research project at my school looking at preparation for improving students retention across a two year linear course and trying to bring the science of memory into the classroom. If you have used these resources and have any comments/feedback/ideas please comment or contact me - thanks!

Poisson Distribution and Estimation using t-distribution

Poisson Distribution and Estimation using t-distribution

A presentation that explains to the students what the Poisson distribution is and how to solve a range of problems using the Poisson distribution. This includes the graphs of Poisson distributions as well as the mean, variance and standard deviation. A presentation that introduces the t-distribution and how it is used for samples below a size of 30. It shows the students how to use the standard tables to find confidence intervals using t-distribution. SMART Notebook Express presentations can be used for free by using SMART online or by downloading SMART software, also free, I use it because it allows a more interactive presentation than a powerpoint. Just search 'SMART Notebook Express' and try it with my free SMART resource.
