Introduction to reverse percentages

Introduction to reverse percentages

A worksheet to introduce students to reverse percentages. Builds up from percentage increase and decrease questions and finding the percentage change, introduces a common misconception about reverse percentages, followed by practice and some worded questions. Answers included on page 2. In the answers I have used multipliers in the explanation of section 2, but the worksheet could easily be used with classes who have not learned this method. I used this as cover work for a high-ability Year 9 class. The worded questions are not my own, but I can’t remember where they originally came from!

Understanding Earth's Water Supply

Understanding Earth's Water Supply

Through a classroom demonstration, students will calculate the percentage of fresh water available for human use and explain why water is a limited resource. Students will choose appropriate units of measurement for  volume. With guidance, students will pose questions to clarify practical problems or inform a scientific investigation, and predict what the findings of an investigation might be. Students connect volume and capacity and their units of measurement. Students will be able to physically represent percentages using 100 pieces of paper and articulate how smaller volumes of water represent the Earth’s total water content.
