FRENCH BACK TO SCHOOL EUROPE POSTERS

My students have always really enjoyed having these posters in the classroom - they’re ideal as a lively back to school decoration, and they’re really useful as an instant and comprehensive introduction to EUROPE! There are 72 posters (8.5 x 11) in FRENCH showing EUROPEAN countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting FRENCH as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of EUROPEAN GEOGRAPHY. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the FAROE ISLANDS, to extend students’ knowledge of EUROPE a little, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example ARMENIA, that are often classed as belonging either to EUROPE or to ASIA. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as FRANCE, officially known as RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used LA FRANCE to display. The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity! They’re ideal for the annual EUROPE DAY celebration, and THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES, as well as an all year round display. Laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to display the posters for years to come! I’ve classed the posters as suitable for age 11-18, as it really does depend on when your students began FRENCH, and what kinds of classroom decor is most useful for them at any particular time. A SET OF 80 MATCHING GAMES CARDS SHOWING COUNTRIES, FLAGS AND CAPITAL CITIES OF 40 COUNTRIES WHERE FRENCH IS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE These cards give my students a great flying start getting to know LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES - they can play a wide of games with the them, completely independently. I’ve included a full reference resource too, which is great not only for when you’re focusing on French-speaking countries, but also as an all-year round resource. Allow students about 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and to increase the sense of competition if you’re playing any of the whole-group games! This lesson takes students to the next level and is an excellent resource for groups that benefit from stretch. It also keeps students engaged as it is entirely based on authentic resources. This is higher level, and could also be used at AS level as a recap. This lesson follows on from my first resource (same title) and encompasses: Starter - Recaps last lessons vocab 1 - Listening: Authentic (and engaging!) video on climate change. Worksheet provided for true and false statements. 2 - Reading: Authentic article from Radio France Internationale. Match French to English words firstly, then true or flase statements. Environment Guided Translation Picture Puzzle

A guided translation on the topic of the environment, where if pupils pick the correct option for each word, a picture emerges. The activity incentivizes accurate translation - pick the wrong word, you don't get the finished picture! For each word to be translated, there are options in French (a, b, c etc). These letters correspond to different colours to be used to colour in a square on the grid. At the end, the whole translation can be written out as a paragraph. Pupils can then set their own picture puzzle for a friend using the paragraph as a model. The translation is about protecting unicorns, so it is easily adapted to write about other animals hunted for their horns such as elephants, rhinos or narwhal. This can be a useful writing exercise if you are working on the topic of the environment. It can also be set as a stand-alone activity as pupils can often deduce the correct answer even if it is unfamiliar, because they can eliminate the incorrect alternatives. The attached image gives an idea of how translating the text produces the image of a giraffe eating leaves from a tree.

This is a set of resources to introduce and cover the topic of where you live. The resources introduce and practise: geographical locations; types of accommodation; rooms in the house; and household furniture. There is enough work for at least 6 lessons and there are worksheets that accompany all of the exercises on the Power Points. There is an assessment for pupils to complete, which will take 2-3 lessons. The assessment is based on producing an Estate Agents brochure for selling a house.
