Ready to print French game (KS3) on questions and answers to introduce yourself. 2 sets of 12 cards with questions and answers to practice listening and reading. Give each student a card (or more if working in smaller groups), the student with the START card reads the question and the other students have a look at their card to see if they have the answer to that question. The student with the correct answer puts his hand up, read the answer then read the question on his card and so on… These cards can also be used to practice dialogues with student lacking of confidence.

The Arthur series of comics in French, help our students who are working with Tapis Volant 2 but can be used by anyone. This is the first one in the series and is just an introduction. It gives names of family members and some jobs. On the cover page there are comprehension questions. Sadly I cannot upload the sound file but a teacher can read out the text. We use the this for both listening and reading comprehension. You can white out the words if you want to use it for listening and students then have the comic pictures as support.

Ma personnalité - Card Game

This game is a French version of the classic " I have… Who has …? " game, designed to practice asking and answering basic questions (name, age, nationality, family, siblings, pets, preferences etc) This is an easy-to-play game and a great way to practice essential language concepts with the whole class. As students match up the answers on their cards with questions on other students’ cards, they get valuable practice with vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills. Directions: Cut out the cards along the dotted line and laminate. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies of each set. Give out all the cards in the set to the students. It is important to use all the cards. Choose a student to go first. I usually do that by a counting rhyme. Have the selected student read the question at the bottom of the card aloud and then put the card down. The student who has the card with the answer then reads that answer aloud. This student will then read the question at the bottom of their card and put the card down. Play continues in this fashion until all of the cards have been played. The game will end with the same student who started play. Every card in the set is connected to a card before it and a card after it. To keep the game moving at a quick pace, all students need to pay attention to every question that has been asked. I tell my younger students that this is a magic game and that the magic only works if you pay attention, which is actually true. The magic happens in the end, when the question on the last card actually matches the answer on the very first card. Enjoy!

GCSE French student revision workbook (Week 1 - Friends, family, relationships and technology)

We gave this to our Year 10 students to provide structured revision support for their forthcoming mocks. We’ve found that our students need increasing amounts of support if they are to avoid the ‘staring at a book’ technique! This workbook provides daily exercises students must complete to revise actively and in time for the mocks. The plan is that they do these exercises at home, bringing in their booklets each week to show that they are actively engaging with their revision. Although we’re using Kerboodle’s assessment resources for Units 1 and 2, the language and skills are generic enough to suit all. As we’re doing the speaking mocks in June, this workbook contains activities that specifically target Listening, Reading and Writing. Although much of this would be relevant for Speaking, this skill is not addressed specifically . Subsequent workbooks will be added weekly and will cover Units 3-8 (free time, festivals, home and area, social issues, global issues and travel & tourism. In general terms, the workbook contains: Many translations out of and into French Match-ups to broaden vocabulary and develop problem-solving skills Real hand-holding on writing the 40-word essay Student-friendly adaptations of AQA’s 40-word essay criteria so they learn how to asses their own work Guidance on how to extend the 40-word essay to 90 words by adding detail and opinions Student-friendly versions of AQA’s 90-word essay criteria These are the instructions I give our reprographics colleague to turn it into a booklet : ‘Please print 30 A4 booklets (A3 paper folded to A4 and stapled)’

Please use this mat as a revision game to play in groups in the classroom. This should be printed on A3 paper and laminated so that it can be re-used. This means that students can write their initials on their square instead of using counters. The way the game is played can be manipulated. However, the main instructions are as follows (also included on sheet): Roll Two Die to Create a Co-ordinate. Place your coloured counter on the square that the roll corresponds to.
