PSHE lesson plan- words can hurt

PSHE lesson plan- words can hurt

This is a tried and tested lesson plan for KS2 (but can also work for KS1) about how unkind words can have a lasting effect. At first reading it seems a little cheesy but I’ve used it with some pretty streetwise Y6 pupils and they loved it! The focus is on empathy and understanding the lasting damage a throwaway phrase or action ccan have on people. Hope you and your pupils enjoy the lesson and if they do why not let others know by leaving a review? If you need any further support with PSHE planning and teaching you might like my new book Making PSHE Matter- available from Jessica Kingsley Publishing and Amazon. http://www.jkp.com/uk/making-pshe-matter-2.html

Sample Pages For The Trouble With Young People Today... Play Script

Sample Pages For The Trouble With Young People Today... Play Script

A short extract from the play The Trouble With Young People Today… a simple but effective one act play which explores the issues of self-confidence, peer pressure, and just saying no. Jimmy would rather play the fool and impress his friends than use his brain and stay out of trouble. Eventually his craving for attention and respect has dire consequences. This is a powerful play to perform and would work well as a performance to a younger audience. These sample pages give you a taster of what the play is like and allow you to try before you buy! If you like this sample the complete script - with full production notes, photocopiable script pages, and fabulous classroom follow-on activities - can be found in the Arts On The Move Shop here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/the-trouble-with-young-people-today-play-script-11438272 Thanks everso!

It was written to support the Changes theme from the SEAL Materials but is suitable to fit with other general assembly themes about changes, feelings of being lost and the need to keep safe. The Hummingbird at the end of the story has become a little wiser IMPORTANT The license for using this assembly in your own class is £3, but if you wish to use this resource for a whole school assembly you will need to purchase the school license. All change! Six activities to help with transition from primary to secondary school

Moving up to secondary school can be an exciting but daunting time. While the children definitely feel ready to move on they may start to have wobbles as the time draws nearer to leave primary school and move from being big fish in a small pond to tiddlers in the sea of secondary school. The following activities are designed to help children work through any fears they have and to get mentally organized for the next step in their school careers. All last around 15 minutes so you can fit them in around the school day. I hope your children enjoy them. Don’t forget to leave a review. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen.
