Climate Change Scheme of work - outstanding ofsted

Climate Change Scheme of work - outstanding ofsted

This is a topic that I have updated recently as a result of significant media attention. The lessons follow a logical structure and offer imaginative and creative ideas to help pupils understand all corners of the topic. Not only do pupils understand the causes and effects, they examine evidence as to whether or not climate change is real or a hoax. The lessons are as follows: Lesson 1- Intro to climate change Lesson 2- Climate Change, real or hoax Lesson 3- The Ice Age Debate Lesson 4- Worst Case Scenario Lesson 5,6- Impacts of Climate Change Lesson 7- Impacts on the UK This content is suitable for year 9 but is taught to a high level and is more than suitable to use for GCSE. Most content is taken from our GCSE lessons

Comparing the weather of St Lucia and the UK

Comparing the weather of St Lucia and the UK

This resource is designed for KS2 children. It is part of a wider unit called Exploring St Lucia which is designed to teach children about a contrasting non-European country. First the presentation introduces children to the tropical climate zone (dry and wet seasons) and its associated weather (i.e. high temperatures and high rainfall). It compares this with temperate climates such as that of the UK. Children are also encouraged to interpret data from a climate graph for St Lucia. Finally, other aspects of a tropical climate are covered including tropical storms and hurricanes. The accompanying differentiated true/false activity helps children to recap what they have learned about the climates of St Lucia and the UK. There is also an extension activity. If you like this resource, please review it. If you have any suggestions or feedback, contact me at eddiebray@yahoo.co.uk

Investigating Cities - Shenzhen, China

Investigating Cities - Shenzhen, China

This is a 4-page worksheet that gets students to investigate the city of Shenzhen in China which has grown from little more than a fishing village in the 1970s to an expanding metropolis of 11 million people today. Shenzhen is commonly known as the "Silicon Valley of China". The worksheet has some mapping questions that look at Shenzen's location and changes in land use over time, some statistics on the climate of the city, and a series of questions on the growth of the city and its impact that can be answered from the BBC News (link is provided). An answer key is provided for teachers. The worksheet would be useful for the Australian Curriculum unit on Liveability and for those jurisdictions where urban development if a focus, perhaps from lower to upper high school Geography.
