I give this to the students (printed in A4 or A5 depending on how much room they need) at the end of the lesson to assess an overview of the lesson. I mark it as soon as I can (ha) and it allows me to spot any misconceptions. The last question is a challenge one to push the most able students.

This PowerPoint focuses on recognizing the value of money. Starter - Revise previous knowledge using whiteboards. Teacher Input - Matching the value of a coin with its image. Activity - Show flash cards of coin or note and pupils to say value. Questioning - What is the difference between pounds and pence? - Think, pair, share. Activity - I.C.T game found in PowerPoint notes (Whole class). Reinstate input - YouTube clip. Teacher Input - Talk about the common mistake when adding pounds and pence. Activity - How much money has Percy got in his bank? Greater Depth - Converting units into pounds and pence. Plenary - Use flash cards at pace. *This was my first ever maths lesson so apologies for any errors.

Interpreting Regression Graphs

Seven examples of regression graphs are given with lines of best fit added. Examples of positive, negative and linear approximation relationships are used. Students are asked to state the correlation then estimate and interpret the intercept and gradient of each graph. The students need to know how to estimate the gradient from 2-points on the line and find the intercept by extrapolation. The task is presented in two forms (1) a write on worksheet and (2) a cut up , mix and match activity. The second option is designed to encourage group work and discussion. There is a set of extension questions, one for each graph that promote further consideration on the strengths and limitations of lines of best fit. Answers are provided in a separate file. The activity is designed to be used with AS Mathematics students however it is accessible to Higher Tier GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Statistics students.

GCSE Higher Tier says 'apply systematic listing strategies, including use of the product rule for counting (i.e. if there are m ways of doing one task and for each of these, there are n ways of doing another task, then the total number of ways the two tasks can be done is m × n ways)'. A clear, colourful and carefully explained PowerPoint presentation building up the skills from simple matching problems to calculating combinations and permutations in a variety of realistic and original settings, with lots of opportunity for the learner to reflect, apply, and evaluate the problems. Also available in my shop are two differentiated worksheets of adapted exam questions from sample and real GCSE assessments.
