French Class Daily Activity - Quel temps fait-il?

This is an activity that my students and I do to start class every day. No lesson on weather is needed when it is done every day! I have all of these weather cards posted in one of my classroom windows. When the question "Quel temps fait-il?" is asked at the beginning of every class, the designated weather person takes whichever cards the class says and sticks them to the wall. For the first year students, simply start each class by pointing to the words (with accompanying pictures) as you read them aloud and have them say "oui" or "non". Eventually, they will start saying the words on their own. Finally, they will be able to do the activity by themselves while you can take roll, redirect off-task students, answer an urgent email, etc. By the end of the first semester, your students will be very strong in telling the weather with accuracy in both content and pronunciation. 24 files introducing classroom and school items. The vocabulary is split into 4 groups, introduced through the Powerpoints. There is then a worksheet and a wordsearch for each group of nouns. In each Powerpoint there is a grammar note for relating to indefinite and definite articles and plurals. Each worksheet and wordsearch is accompanied by an answer sheet. There is also a homework sheet for pupils to practice the vocabulary and a sheet for vocabulary notes (again with a completed version). This resource is a good first lesson in French as the vocabulary encompasses many sounds and highlights the differences between the singular and plural. I hope you find this helpful.

This is a comprehensive and interactive PPT with 42 slides on greetings and personal information. The first part goes through the various ways of greetings, both formal and informal. The second part looks at how to ask and respond to a range of personal information: name, age, phone number, date of birth, where I live and come from, nationality, job, where you work. It is followed by some practice and a who's who game with pictures of famous people. It is suitable for KS3 students but I also found it very useful for KS4 students in preparation for the role-plays, as they often forget how to ask and respond properly to basic questions.

Quiz-Quiz-Trade template

Template for the popular 'Quiz-Quiz-Trade' activity. Students each have a small piece of paper/card with a phrase in TL and its translation underneath. Students mill around the room, when they ‘bump’ into someone student A will say their phrase in TL and student B has to translate (quiz). The same happens with student B’s card (quiz). If both students translate each other’s card correctly they trade, hence the quiz-quiz-trade. To add an element of competition, ask the students to count the amount of times they exchanged and give a prize / raffle ticket / house point to the winner.

Dice-rolling conversation - Pairwork template

Give the students a gap-fill text with 10 gaps in it (A to I). Of course, this can be more or fewer gaps – just remember to adjust the A to I in the table. In each gap in the text, write a letter (A to I). Along the corresponding row in the table, give 6 alternatives to go in that gap. Pupils then choose one by rolling a dice. When the student reaches the gap, they roll a dice and say/write the corresponding word.
