Observing a Lesson and Giving Feedback: A Guide to Best Practice

Observing a Lesson and Giving Feedback: A Guide to Best Practice

This resource provides a comprehensive guide to best practice in observing teaching and offering constructive feedback to colleagues. Based on the most recent research on facilitating teacher improvement, this 5 page document contains practical, hands-on advice that is suitable for lesson observation in both secondary and primary settings. It offers a ‘coaching’ model for supporting colleagues in reflecting on their own practice through the use of a ‘guided’ questioning framework. This will prove helpful both for those who have just taken on responsibility for the performance management of other staff or more experienced middle or senior managers wishing to refresh and update their approach. Both a PDF and Microsoft Word version of the guide are provided so it can be fully customised to reflect the teaching and learning priorities of an individual school.

Transition Advice for Teachers

Transition Advice for Teachers

PSW Education & Leadership brings you 5 key areas to explore when participating in a transition meeting regarding your new class or group of students. 1- Explore the key demographics of your new class. What are the key vulnerable or target groups? 2- Do any individuals have specific additional needs or disabilities? 3- Explore any issues arising in regards to behaviour within the class. Are there any specific individuals or needs you need to be aware of? 4- Gather information in regards to current academic standards. How do these pupils need to be challenged? 5- What do I need to teach as a priority in my first few weeks? What gaps in learning need to be addressed? There will be many more issues you would probably also like to explore. However, if you use these key areas as an initial scaffold to your conversations, you should feel confident that you are ready to receive your new groups of students. Positive Office Referral Template

Positive Office Referral Template

In a spirit of promoting positive behavior intervention support systems (PBIS), this template is a great ay to change the way students get attention. In addition to or in replacement of negative referrals to the office, this form allows for students to receive extra positive attention when caught doing great things. Just like the normal form, this alternative praises students based on their behavior or characteristics such as flexibility, accountability, optimism, respect, grit, perseverance and more. It is set up to have the student's name, the date, teacher, location, details and more. It also includes additional details and signature lines for the teacher, parents, and administrators. Please leave some feedback for how it work for you and how you implemented it in your school/classroom!
