KS2 maths resource. 3 levels of worksheet. Differentiation achieved by selective use of denominator (e.g. L1 denominators are 2, 5; L3 are 2-12). Each zip file contains a worksheet and answer sheet. Task is to supply the missing numerator in an equivalent fraction.
A worksheet showing a grid divided into 4, 10, 20 and 100, to find the equivalent of half with quarters, tenths, twentieths and hundredths. I used this in Year 4 as a precursor to looking at decimals, tenth and hundredths, as well as to correct some misconceptions with lower ability Year 6 children.
This is a simple, differentiated resource for pupils to learn direct equivalence between fractions and decimals; reinforcing number facts through a simple puzzle grid, which is ideal for an OMS or fun plenary activity.
Full instructions on the resource.
A full differentiated and scaffolded lesson on the rules of fractions. The lesson includes finding equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions, fractions of amounts, multiplying and dividing fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. Domino cards, worksheet and homework included.
Note: This resource could be broken down into different lessons. It was designed for a 3 hour college lecture.
Credit to DanWalker for the idea between a number of slides. I do not own the adding and subtracting fractions differentiated worksheet.
Please do leave feedback! Thank you.
Pupils have three minutes to fill in the gaps and find the equivalent fractions in this series of classroom activities. Ideal as starter activities, mental Maths tests or plenaries.
Powerpoint that I used for teaching fraction and decimal equivalents. Has interactive activities in there such as a matching pair -fraction to decimal, as well as some differentiate problems for children to do independently. Ta
Worksheet resources intended for lower ability year 3 pupils. The cupcake worksheet I designed for using prior to the children using real cupcakes set out in trays of twelve. Children worked in pairs and were given a fraction to divide their cupcakes out onto plates and decorate. This embedded their understanding and they could clearly visual that one plate with a half was the same as two plates with a quarter.
A nice simple worksheet for students to use for shading in bars to see fractions which are equivalent. Perfect for primary and secondary mathematics lessons.
This activity is especially nice for the more visual learners, and those who find it more difficult to conceptualize mathematics.
This resource includes a rainbow-colored “fraction wall” for students to refer to. This wall is helpfully the same width as the bars for the examples and the questions.
All parts of the resource are easily editable. It had a dyslexic-friendly font and can be printed on any color paper without loss of aesthetic.
This is also a nice time to introduce to the students the idea of the “part to whole” relationship that fractions indicate.
As always, if you do choose to download this resource, thank you, and please leave feedback for any improvements I could make to it.
5 Topics to Revise for Key Stage 2 SATs
Since the White Rose Maths Hub began creating questions for Diagnostic Questions just a few months ago, there have been 337,221 answers given by primary school students all over the country. Perhaps more importantly, 116,437 of these answers have been incorrect.
So, with SATs on the horizon, we thought it would be a perfect time to reflect on five areas of mathematics that have proved particularly troubling to Key Stage 2 students. The five key areas are:
- Area and perimeter
- Angles
- Equivalent fractions and fractions of an amount
- Factors and multiples
- Percentages
For each of these areas we have provided some supporting resources that you could use with your classes to help overcome these difficulties, together with a mini 5 question quiz you could give your students to see if their misconceptions have been resolved.
We really hope you find this useful.

The Big Book of Fractions includes a range of fraction topics within it over 95 pages including:
What a fraction is
Colouring fractions
Representing fractions
Equivalent fractions including simplifying
Comparing fractions
Finding fractions of amounts including finding original numbers - Using the bar model
Converting between mixed and improper fractions
Adding fractions
Subtracting fractions
Multiplying fractions by whole numbers
Multiplying fractions by fractions
Dividing fractions by whole numbers
Fractions, decimals and percentages equivalence
Glossary of what particular terms mean
Within this there are help sheets, showing how to do different operations with fractions through the maths and also through showing pictorial representations, generally using the bar model.
After the help sheets most topics include practise questions and then questions that challenge children's fluency, reasoning and problem solving abilities.
This can be used for a range of things, whether it be just to print the help sheets to encourage children to be independent or to give children a practise activity or activity that requires them to think more deeply.
Four posters covering fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as a bonus teacher's misconceptions guide on fractions.

Aimed towards lower KS2, children are asked to shade one half of shapes which have been split into quarters, sixths, eighths and tenths. Afterwards, they should see that one half is equivalent to 5 tenths, etc.
